A young man from the Nung ethnic group made a fortune from raising goats.

Every morning, the calls of goats from the barn behind the spacious house of Mr. Ha Van Cuong (born in 1995) in Tay Son village, Dak Sak commune, Lam Dong province, echo, "awakening" the peaceful countryside.

Starting with just a few breeding goats, Mr. Cuong has built a large-scale livestock farming model.

Starting from nothing, this young Nung ethnic man quietly built up a herd of hundreds of goats, transforming his life through hard work and determination to overcome poverty.

It all started in the days of "living from hand to mouth."

Few people know that, many years ago, this place was just a barren wasteland, and the greatest asset of Mr. Ha Van Cuong's family was just a dilapidated wooden house, a small plot of farmland, and only four breeding goats.

Mr. Cuong still vividly remembers the early days of his career. Back then, his family's life revolved around farming year-round, but poverty still clung to them. Income was unstable, and he and his wife had to scrimp and save every penny to provide for their family.

In 2017, after coincidentally seeing a friend's goat farming model yielding quite stable economic results, he began to think about giving it a try. Gathering all his savings, he bought four breeding goats and brought them home to raise behind his house.

"At the time, I simply thought I'd try raising goats to see how it went, hoping to earn some extra money. Who would have thought I'd become so attached to goats until now?" Cương said with a gentle smile.

Mr. Cuong closely monitors and cares for the baby goats to promptly detect diseases and ensure their rapid growth.

In the early days, lacking experience, he had to figure everything out on his own. During the day, he cut grass and leaves, and in the evening, he cleaned the pens, learning how to care for goats through books and newspapers and asking experienced goat farmers for advice. There were times when the herd of goats got sick, and a few died, causing him sleepless nights.

Many people advised him to give up because raising goats is hard work and the profit is minimal. But once he started to understand the breeding and care process, and saw the remaining goats growing bigger every day, he told himself he had to try a little harder, and get back up wherever he stumbled.

And from those initial four goats, the herd grew to several dozen. He continued to keep the breeding goats to expand the herd instead of selling them all for money as before. The barns were also gradually expanded as the number of goats increased each year.

Thanks to proper care techniques, Mr. Cuong's family's goat herd always thrives.

Currently, Mr. Cuong's goat farming model maintains a herd size of approximately 300 goats, with a well-invested system of barns and enclosures.

Thanks to proper care techniques, the goat herd is always healthy, grows quickly, and is rarely affected by disease. On average, his family earns 30-40 million VND per month from selling goat meat and over 100 million VND per year from fertilizer produced by the goats.

The sweet reward after months of perseverance.

The road leading to Mr. Cuong's house is now very different from before. In the middle of the spacious yard stands a well-built house, prominent in the countryside. In front of the porch, a pickup truck is neatly parked – an achievement he says he never dared to dream of during his difficult times.

"

In previous years, we were just happy to have enough to eat and send our children to school, but now, thanks to the goat herd, our family has a more comfortable life.

Currently, Mr. Ha Van Cuong's family maintains a herd of hundreds of goats for meat and breeding. Besides selling goats for commercial purposes, he also supplies breeding goats to many households in the area. Thanks to diligent care and a proactive approach to feed sourcing, the goat farming provides a stable income for his family each year.

According to Mr. Cuong, raising goats doesn't require as much capital as many other types of livestock, but success requires perseverance. Goats are easy to raise, but if the enclosures are not clean or disease prevention is neglected, losses can occur very quickly.

In early 2026, Mr. Cuong purchased a pickup truck to serve his transportation and business needs.

What made him happiest was not only the improved living conditions for his family, but also the fact that more households in the area came to learn from his experience. Whenever someone wanted to raise goats, he was always ready to share how to build pens, choose breeds, or care techniques.

Recently, many young people in the area have come to visit and learn from Mr. Cuong's family about goat farming.

Dang Dau Quy, Secretary of the Dak Sak Commune Youth Union, said: "Ha Van Cuong's goat farming model is a prime example of young people daring to think and act in the locality. What is admirable about Mr. Cuong is not only his success in business but also his willingness to share his experience and support other young people in their development. This is a startup model worth learning from for Youth Union members and young people."

In the afternoon, as the sun began to set, the goats made their way back to their pens from the hill. Cương stood by the fence, watching the goats jostling for their food trough, his eyes sparkling with joy.

From a dilapidated wooden house (in the middle), after many years of dedication to goat farming, Mr. Cuong's family now has a spacious home and a comfortable life.

Starting with just four breeding goats, through perseverance and unwavering determination, this young man rose to wealth. And for him, the greatest success wasn't the beautiful house or the car parked outside, but the fact that his family now had a comfortable life after many years of struggling to make ends meet.
