The quality of the work remains the deciding factor.

According to statistics from Younet Media, from May 4th to 13th, the two films "The Ghost of Happiness" (directed by Nguyen Duong) and "Because My Mother Decided We Break Up" (directed by Vu Khac Tuan) continued to lead in terms of interaction metrics.

Among them, "Ghost of Happiness" recorded 5.9 million interactions, while "Because My Mother Decided We Break Up" reached over 5.49 million. Films like "No Limits," "Stepping into Life ," etc., were also in the top 10 most discussed topics.

Notably, "Because My Mother Decided We Should Break Up" became the most-watched Vietnamese film in the history of the VieON app, with over 1.5 billion views across various platforms. The producers also implemented fast-track technology for the first time, allowing viewers to pay to watch the final three episodes in advance, a model popular in China. This is considered a noteworthy experiment, demonstrating an effort to keep pace with international trends.

However, impressive viewership numbers do not necessarily translate into sustainable growth for Vietnamese television dramas. Many recent attention-grabbing works share a common theme: exploiting familiar, easily relatable motifs. "The Ghost of Happiness" captivates viewers with its themes of marital conflict, infidelity, third parties, and family strife. "Because My Mother Judged Our Breakup " explores a "CEO-Cinderella" romance with a strong cast. "Stepping into Life" reflects the journey of growing up, making a living, and the multifaceted relationships of young people. Meanwhile, "The First Promise" attracts attention by exploring the hidden aspects behind the glamour of the beauty pageant world .

In reality, in recent years, the number of television series that have both created a strong impact and received high praise for their quality has been small. Many projects are seriously invested in but air rather quietly, failing to make an impression. Meanwhile, many projects follow a formulaic, outdated approach… but thanks to good marketing, they still attract audience attention. This seems unsustainable if the quality of the films remains low.

Furthermore, with so many alternatives available today, especially international online platforms, Vietnamese films are facing fierce competition. Therefore, what viewers should look forward to are works with depth and a realistic portrayal of life. The ability to retain viewers for the long term is a fundamental requirement for Vietnamese television dramas today.
