According to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, at around 8:00 a.m. on July 16, many users reported that OpenAI's ChatGPT suddenly encountered an error and did not respond to commands.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Anh, an office worker in Ho Chi Minh City, said that this morning, she used ChatGPT to help synthesize information for her company's market report, but the tool did not return any results.
"At first, I thought ChatGPT was overloaded as usual, but after more than an hour, the platform still hasn't worked again," said Ms. Anh.
A user reported that ChatGPT had an error on the morning of July 16.
"What's wrong with ChatGPT guys? It's really down" - a user account wrote on the AI community.
In the wake of this incident, many people said they have switched to using other AI platforms such as Gemini and Grok to continue their work.
OpenAI has not made an official announcement about the cause of the incident.
ChatGPT was back to normal at 10:05.
According to the record, this is not the first time ChatGPT has encountered an error. Previously, in June 2025, many users reported that this tool was inaccessible or had very slow speed.
Another OpenAI service, Sora — a video generator from text or images — is also experiencing service disruptions at this time.
Even earlier, in late 2024, the ChatGPT website suddenly stopped working. When accessing it, users only saw the message: "ChatGPT is currently unavailable. Status: Known - We have identified the issue and are working on a fix."
OpenAI later spoke out on social media, saying the problem originated from the company's API (application programming interface) system and pledged to work to fix it.
