Kinhtedothi - On January 9th, a large forest fire broke out in the hilly area of Group 1, Zone 4, Bai Chay Ward, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province. By over 10 PM that day, the fire had not been completely extinguished, although it had been largely contained to prevent it from spreading to neighboring areas.
The fire started at 10:15 a.m. on January 9th. Immediately after receiving the information, hundreds of officers and soldiers from the fire department, forest rangers, army, and local authorities quickly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire.

However, the dry weather conditions and strong winds caused the fire to spread rapidly and intensely, especially as many dry trees that had fallen from the previous Typhoon Yagi became fuel for the flames.
Authorities coordinated the use of various equipment to create firebreaks and extinguish the blaze. Although the fire did not threaten residential areas, controlling the flames proved challenging.
By late afternoon, the fire unexpectedly reignited, spreading to the hilly area in Zone 7, Bai Chay Ward, increasing the total burned forest area to approximately 1 hectare. By late night on January 9th, several small fires were still burning, and firefighting forces were continuing to deal with them.
Notably, this hilly area experienced a series of forest fires between December 17-19, 2024.
Currently, authorities are continuing to monitor and deal with remaining fire hotspots, while coordinating with specialized agencies to investigate the cause and assess the damage.
