Chevrolet Captiva is probably a familiar name to Vietnamese consumers. This is an SUV model that was quite popular in Vietnam, especially in the period 2007-2008. However, since 2018, Captiva has been discontinued in Vietnam due to the Chevrolet brand withdrawing from the market. Meanwhile, in the international market, the Chevrolet Captiva is still "living tenaciously". This model even has a new all-electric version added. Mainly aimed at regions such as Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, the Chevrolet Captiva EV was introduced by the company in Brazil on July 8, 2025.
Previously, parent company General Motors (GM) revived the Captiva name with a new version based on the Chinese Baojun 530 car model. Now, the Chevrolet Captiva EV is developed based on another Chinese car model. Specifically, the pure electric version of the Chevrolet Captiva is born from the Wuling Starlight S, also known as the Xing Guang S. The car has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,750 x 1,890 x 1,690 mm and a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. At the front, the Chevrolet Captiva EV has a slim LED daytime running light strip and turn signals above. Meanwhile, the main headlights are placed lower on the front bumper. Despite being an electric car, the car still has a large black grille, quite different from the popular design trend in this segment. The rear of the car is almost identical to the Wuling Starlight S with the taillights, rear door and black rear bumper copied from the Chinese car model.
The interior images of the Chevrolet Captiva EV have not been released yet. However, it would not be surprising if the car shares the same interior as the Wuling Starlight S. The luggage compartment capacity is quite spacious, up to 610 liters. The "heart" of the Chevrolet Captiva EV is an electric motor with a maximum capacity of 204 horsepower and a maximum torque of 310 Nm. Thanks to that, the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 175 km/h. The electric motor is powered by a 60 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, which provides a range of up to 510 km under China’s rather lenient CLTC standard. The car supports DC fast charging, which can increase the battery capacity from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes.
Chevrolet says the Captiva EV is currently undergoing certification in Brazil and will undergo extensive testing to meet local standards. Pricing will be announced at a later date. According to GM, the Chevrolet Captiva EV aims to provide a family-friendly electric SUV with a spacious interior, modern design, refined finishes and a quality technical service system. The vehicle will be officially launched in the Brazilian market later this year.
