"In a joint operation between the IDF and ISA, an air force aircraft struck and killed Ihab Abu Atiwi, Hamas leader in Tulkarm, along with another person," the statement said.

The statement also said that Mr. Abu Atiwi was involved in several shootings, including an attack at the Ramin intersection in the West Bank last July that injured three Israelis.

The killing of this Hamas commander was part of ISA and IDF operations in the northern West Bank.

On the same day, January 27, RIA Novosti reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Israeli Ambassador to Russia Simona Halperin met to discuss the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip, including Russian citizens.

The meeting took place at the request of the Israeli diplomat and the two sides discussed in detail the situation in the Middle East, focusing on the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, the ministry said in a statement.

The two sides also discussed efforts to deepen Russian-Israeli relations and maintaining close political dialogue.

In another development, on the same day, January 27, according to Wafa , Mr. Moussa Abu Marzouk, a senior official of the Hamas Politburo , stated that the movement does not necessarily seek to manage the Gaza Strip after the conflict there ends.

Moussa Abu Marzouk acknowledged that in the future, the governing body in the Gaza Strip will need both regional and international support, including that of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

In December 2024, Hamas and the Palestinian Authority's Fatah party discussed forming a committee to coordinate the post-war governance of Gaza.
