Border guards are touched by "Letters to the Home Front".

"Dad, we miss you so much!" - the carefully written words of a fourth-grade girl on the home front brought tears to the eyes of border guards on the front lines of the Fatherland. In the remote border region of Na Hy, Dien Bien province, fathers in green uniforms are quietly reading and rereading each line of letters their children sent to their units on International Children's Day.

In the last days of May, the atmosphere at the Nam Nhu Border Guard Post (Na Hy commune, Dien Bien province) became unusually warm. Letters and colorful drawings from the children were sent to the unit one after another. These were expressions of affection from the children of the officers and soldiers – children living with their mothers and grandparents back home, eagerly awaiting their fathers' return after long patrols along the border.

The little girl drew a picture to send to her border guard father after receiving a Children's Day greeting letter from her father's unit.

This initiative stems from the "Letters to the Home Front" model, initiated by Major Do Xuan Diem, Political Officer of the Nam Nhu Border Guard Post. He wrote heartfelt letters, like a father or uncle, to the children, encouraging them to be well-behaved, study hard, and be proud of their fathers' work on the border. 36 congratulatory letters were sent to the children of officers and soldiers in the unit on the occasion of International Children's Day, June 1st. Surprisingly, in a short time, the children wrote letters and drew pictures, sending them to the unit along with loving and proud messages to their fathers and uncles at the unit.

Each letter is a unique story, carrying the innocent world of a child's soul. Ánh Hồng, a fourth-grade student, and her four-year-old sister Yến Vy, daughters of Major Vàng A Chứ, wrote a heartfelt letter to their father and his comrades.

In the letter, the little girl expressed: "We greatly admire the resilience and optimistic smiles of the uncles and aunts. I promise to try my best to be well-behaved and study hard so that when I grow up I can contribute to building the country, worthy of the sacrifices of the uncles and aunts." At the end of the letter, the two sisters signed their names in childish handwriting: "Hong - Vy," simple yet touching to anyone who read it.

These colorful paintings were sent as gifts to the border guard fathers and soldiers working on the border on the occasion of June 1st.

The story of the two brothers, Tien Manh (7th grade) and Xuan Phuc (4th grade), has a very unique flavor. The two boys confessed that they "struggled for a long time" because they didn't know how to write well, and they also wanted to draw pictures to give to the officers, so they finally decided to do both. "Especially, my brother and I miss Father Hong very much! We wish Father Hong peace and that all the officers always stay healthy and keep a close watch on their weapons to protect the peace of our country" - these simple lines of the letter are perhaps the most beautiful Children's Day gift a father on the border could receive.

Attached to the letter was a drawing the children had painstakingly made of smiling soldiers in green uniforms next to the national flag, with the lovely message: "Thank you so much, uncles! Happy Children's Day, June 1st."

Behind each stroke of the pen lies the image of hardworking mothers – the strong support system who have taken care of and educated their children in place of their husbands, allowing them to confidently remain stationed on the border. These are children who grew up without their fathers on special occasions, yet are filled with pride in their fathers' noble work. Spreading love to children in border regions – this love doesn't stop at letters sent to the home front.

The children wrote letters to their unit, expressing their love and pride for their father in his green military uniform.

On June 1st, 2026, at Nam Nhu 1 village, Na Hy commune, the Nam Nhu Border Guard Station, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Na Hy commune, organized a Children's Day program for disadvantaged children in the border area, presenting gifts to nearly 100 students in the area.

For the underprivileged children in the highlands, these simple gifts from the soldiers brought immeasurable joy, allowing them to have a truly fulfilling Children's Day.

The "Letters to the Home Front" initiative, recently launched, has touched the hearts of countless people. These two-way letters not only strengthen the bond between fathers and sons, husbands and wives, but also provide immense moral support, helping border guards remain steadfast on the front lines. At the same time, the initiative instills in children a love for their homeland, gratitude, and pride in their family traditions.

These two-way letters not only serve as a bond between fathers and sons, husbands and wives, but also as a great source of moral support, helping border guards stand firm on the front lines.

And so, in a remote corner of the country, there are fathers in military uniforms cherishing and preserving each letter and drawing from their children as if they were precious treasures. Because these are the motivation and spiritual anchor that allows them to continue holding their weapons firmly, protecting national sovereignty and border security, and maintaining peace for each family.
