(Baoquangngai.vn) - For soldiers who participated in the resistance war against the US, the victory on April 30, 1975, when the South was liberated and the country was reunited, is still intact in their memories.
HEROIC MEMORIES
During the historic days of April, we were honored to meet Colonel Phan Long Chau, who lived and fought directly during the years of resistance against the US, to relive the atmosphere of the spring of reunification.
Mr. Chau was formerly the Political Commissar of Duc Pho District Military Command, Political Commissar of Regiment 887. He is now 80 years old, living in Group 1, Tran Hung Dao Ward (Quang Ngai City). Although the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country has been over for 49 years, he still remembers every battle, the days of "life and death", with emotion mixed with pride.
He excitedly showed us the souvenirs that had accompanied him throughout his military service, including photos of his years studying at the Academy of the Ministry of National Defense , medals, certificates of merit...
Mr. Chau recalled, when I turned 18, I left my family to join the revolution, then was transferred to the reconnaissance force of the 83rd Infantry Battalion. After that, I was assigned to the positions of Reconnaissance Squad Leader of the 48th Infantry Battalion, Deputy Political Commissar of the 81st Battalion of the 94th Regiment ( Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command).
The war has been over for 49 years, but for Colonel Phan Long Chau, former Political Commissar of Duc Pho District Team, Political Commissar of Regiment 887, the victory on April 30, 1975, when the South was liberated, the country was unified, the country was reunited, and the North and South were reunited, is still intact in his heroic memory.
Colonel Phan Long Chau, former Political Commissar of Duc Pho District Military Command and Political Commissar of Regiment 887, recalls the glorious past.
At that time, Mr. Chau was the Acting Captain of Company 3, Battalion 48. He and his comrades fought bravely and destroyed 200 enemy soldiers. Also in this battle, he was shot by an enemy bullet through his left thigh and suffered a traumatic brain injury, leaving him unconscious. He will never forget that painful day, because 36 of his comrades fell. That painful memory is still fresh in his mind.
Having fought in battles, having gone through life and death situations, and being lucky enough to witness the moment of national reunification, the North and South reunited, the old soldier always feels honored and proud.
Like Mr. Chau, in the memory of Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thien Thuc (82 years old), in residential group 3, La Ha town (Tu Nghia), the seething atmosphere of the historic April days is unforgettable. Mr. Thuc was formerly the Political Commissar of Tu Nghia District Military Command, Secretary of the Executive Committee of Tu Nghia District Military Command; and Captain of Tu Nghia District Military Command.
During the years of participating in the resistance war against the US, he experienced more than 100 battles. Mr. Thuc said, many times I and my teammates disguised themselves, secretly infiltrated enemy bases, there were times when we were exposed, my teammates and I quickly opened fire and destroyed the enemy first.
Until now, Mr. Thuc still feels moved when recalling the historic days of April. To have these moments, we had to pay with the blood and bones of countless compatriots, comrades and soldiers.

On March 24, 1975, Quang Ngai was liberated. After that, our army and people won consecutive battles on the battlefields. From then on, it contributed significantly to the successful battles and campaigns, leading to the historic victory in the spring of 1975.

“At noon on April 30, 1975, the loudspeakers broadcast a special news bulletin with the declaration of surrender to the Liberation Army read by President Duong Van Minh. After hearing it, everyone happily hugged each other, tears streaming down their faces, and shouted loudly: "The South is completely liberated, the country is unified". People joyfully poured into the streets, carrying red flags with yellow stars, waving pictures of Uncle Ho, and cheering to celebrate the victory day", Mr. Thuc emotionally recalled.
THE QUALITIES OF UNCLE HO'S SOLDIERS WILL LAST FOREVER
Returning from the war, soldiers like Mr. Chau and Mr. Thuc carried many serious injuries and sequelae, but still maintained the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, to overcome difficulties, continue to live useful lives for their families and society, and be shining examples for the younger generation to follow.
Returning from the fierceness of war, the soldiers carry many sequelae and severe wounds, but still maintain the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers and revolutionary spirit to overcome difficulties, continue to live a useful life for their families and society, and are shining examples for future generations to follow.
Mr. Nguyen Thien Thuc (right) and his teammates always maintain the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, setting a shining example for the younger generation to follow.

Although he is a 2/4 disabled veteran, Mr. Chau still actively participates in local activities, as Chairman of the Veterans Association of Tran Hung Dao Ward, then Secretary of the residential group Party Cell. Disabled veteran Nguyen Thien Thuc also held the position of Chairman of the Veterans Association of Tu Nghia District.

Regardless of their position, veterans always fulfill well the tasks entrusted by the Party and people, firmly believe and strive to contribute to building an increasingly prosperous homeland.

Saying goodbye to the veterans, their stories and memories are the most vivid and authentic evidence of a heroic historical period so that today's and future generations will always cherish the value of peace and strive to continue writing the heroic history of the nation on the journey of building and defending the Fatherland of Vietnam.
