Elon Musk often appears with his 4-year-old son X at events. |
Not only does Elon Musk hold an important position in the US government and is a strong supporter of President Donald Trump, he also has at least 14 children with 4 women. Many sources say the billionaire's actual number of children is even more than that.
As Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) undergoes a massive government overhaul, Ashley St. Clair, a former Musk girlfriend, is trying to prove that the child she just gave birth to is his. The two are currently in a long-running lawsuit.
Musk calls his children “the army,” reflecting his subjective beliefs about the future of the world. How does this father, one of the most influential people in the world, balance his work and his ambitions for “space-based population planning”?
Musk's survival plan
Elon Musk’s baby boom is linked to his ambitions for NASA, where he wants to accelerate the process of sending humans to Mars. He once shared on X that sending humans to multiple planets is “essential to ensuring the long-term survival of the human race.”

In Musk’s bleak view of the world, civilization is threatened by depopulation. His businesses are serving this idea: SpaceX’s primary goal is to build ships to Mars, while other companies, including X and Tesla, serve as sponsors.
During St. Clair’s pregnancy, Musk offered to have more children with other women. St. Clair said that in 2023, Musk told her that he had received an offer from Japanese officials to donate sperm to a prominent woman. He agreed, but did not reveal the woman’s identity.
Many people close to him believe that Musk is looking for the mother of his future children on X. He often interacts through comments or direct messages with less famous people, then expresses his desire to have children with them.
Tiffany Fong, a cryptocurrency influencer, was followed by Musk in 2024, when she posted a lot of political content, expressing support for Mr. Trump. Musk's influence, with 219 million followers, has helped her earn a lot of money from this social network.

Around that time, Musk texted Fong about having a baby, but she declined. Fong later shared the news with her friends, including St. Clair. When Musk found out, he criticized her for not being discreet, and unfollowed her, causing Fong’s influence and income to plummet.
St.Clair and Musk met in 2023, when he interacted with her posts on X. Their relationship grew romantic, and she said Musk repeatedly talked about having children. St.Clair said the two conceived during a New Year's trip to St. Barts.
Use finance to buy silence
Musk owns a compound in Austin where he wants his “extended family” to live, and he often visits and spends time with Zilis, a senior director at Neuralink, and reportedly favors her.

Musk invited Grimes and her three children to the complex, but she declined. The two went through a lengthy legal battle that ended in August 2024. In 2023, Musk sued Grimes in Texas to establish a legal “father-daughter relationship.” The lawsuit left Grimes bankrupt, she said.
Musk also made advances to St.Clair, but was again rejected. A year later, she went through a similar lawsuit with Grimes.
As her belly began to show, she said she largely stayed in her apartment to keep it a secret. Musk directed Jared Birchall, her personal and financial manager, to send St. Clair $2 million to cover expenses. Half of that money was structured as a loan, according to a text message seen by the WSJ .
When she went into the hospital to induce labor in September, Birchall texted her about removing Musk’s name from the birth certificate. Just before that, she hired a lawyer, something Birchall had warned her not to do.
She agreed to the request that Musk’s name not be included on the birth certificate. However, Birchall soon urged St. Clair to sign documents that would keep the identity of the child’s father and her relationship with Musk secret in exchange for a one-time payment of $15 million , plus $100,000 a month until the child turned 21.
Musk texted her that he was “second to Trump on the hit list,” to convince her that revealing his relationship with the child was dangerous. However, she refused to sign, arguing that it would make the child illegitimate.
The agreement bars her from speaking about Musk in connection with the child or speaking ill of him, but does not prohibit the other way around. It does not provide for support for the child if he or she becomes seriously ill, nor does it provide for trust funds or life insurance if Musk dies before the child turns 21.

St.Clair said she tried to work with Musk directly, but he refused. She posted on X in February, publicly revealing the father of her child. After the post, Musk rescinded the $15 million fee offer.
Then, when they went to court to discuss paternity testing and a restraining order against Musk, he reduced his financial offer to just $40,000 a month. However, the support payments were not only delayed, but also cut to $20,000 .
“The timing of the reduced payments from Musk coincided with the disagreements over testing and the speech ban,” said Dror Bikel, one of St. Clair’s attorneys. He concluded that the subsidy was being used as a weapon. St. Clair’s legal fees have now exceeded $240,000 .
The New York Supreme Court ordered Musk to take a paternity test. On April 12, the results from Labcorp said there was a “99.9999% chance of being the father.”
