Xiaomi Corporation's stock has fallen sharply by 9.85% since the launch of Xiaomi 17 Series (September 25) to the latest trading session on September 30.
After surveying the market, famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the reason for this decline could be because the sales of the Mi 17 product line did not meet expectations.
Specifically, Mr. Kuo said that the total shipment of the Xiaomi 17 series has been adjusted down 20% compared to the original target of 10 million units. Mr. Kuo commented that without stronger pricing and marketing strategies, the total sales of the Mi 17 could be lower than the 8 million units of the predecessor Mi 15 series.
The main reason for this adjustment is that demand for the standard version of the Mi 17 was much lower than expected. Initially, this version was expected to account for 50-55% of total sales of the Mi 17 series, but in reality it only reached 15-20%. Although the number of orders for the Pro Max and Pro versions increased, they were still not enough to offset the decline of the standard version.
Mr. Kuo also pointed out that the Xiaomi 17 series is facing fierce competition from major rivals such as Apple and Huawei. Specifically, sales of the standard iPhone 17 in the Chinese market have exceeded expectations. Not only that, Xiaomi 17 also continues to face pressure from new iPhone models launched in 2026.

Meanwhile, demand for Huawei's premium models was lower than expected due to compatibility issues with its HarmonyOS operating system, but the situation is expected to improve by 2026.
On the same day Mr. Kuo published the report, Xiaomi Group Chairman, Mr. Lu Weibing, posted an article on social media, affirming that the Mi 17 series' sales were very good even though it had only been launched for two days.
"We believe that the Mi 17 series will outperform its predecessor, the Mi 15 series, in terms of sales," Mr. Lu shared.
He also revealed that among the three models, the Mi 17 Pro Max is the best-selling version, followed by the Mi 17 Pro, showing a significant improvement in the product structure. Xiaomi immediately increased orders for the Pro version.
Mr. Lu also explained the delay of the 1TB standard version. The low sales of the similar version in the previous generation caused Xiaomi to not launch it in the first place.
However, due to strong feedback from users, the company rushed to mass production and started shipping from October 5, which also more or less affected the initial sales of the standard version.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Wang Hua, General Manager of Xiaomi's Public Relations Department, affirmed that there are currently no plans to cut orders.
“With the addition of the standard Xiaomi 17 16GB/1TB version and increased orders for the 17 Pro series, total orders will increase compared to the previous generation,” he said.
The Xiaomi Mi 17 series was officially launched on September 25. Before the launch, Xiaomi's stock rose more than 4%. However, after the event, the company's stock plummeted, falling more than 8% on September 26.
However, according to the official announcement from Xiaomi, the Mi 17 series broke the first-day sales and revenue records of all domestic phone lines launched in 2025 within just 5 minutes of opening for sale.
