What to expect at the new iPhone launch event?

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 along with a new series of Apple Watches at an upcoming event on September 9.

Apple has just announced a new product launch event on September 9 (ie 0:00 September 10 Vietnam time). Based on rumors, the devices that may appear include the iPhone 17, a new Apple Watch, and some other products, such as AirPods Pro 3.

Apple rarely reveals product details ahead of launch, but the company has introduced new iPhones in September since 2012.

This event has the theme “Awe dropping” (Vietnamese: “Sê mêêê”). Besides the iPhone 17, these are the devices worth looking forward to in Apple's upcoming launch event.

iPhone 17

The iPhone is always the highlight of every September event. This year, the standard iPhone 17 is not expected to have significant upgrades. The biggest change is likely to come from the ProMotion display technology similar to the iPhone Pro, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Next, analyst Jeff Pu predicts that the iPhone 17's selfie camera will have a resolution of 24 MP, double that of its predecessor (12 MP).

Rumors about the product's hardware are mixed. While Pu believes the iPhone 17 will use the same A18 processor as the iPhone 16, rumor expert Fixed Focus Digital predicts that the chip on the device will be upgraded to the A19.

It's unclear whether the iPhone 17 will have an upgraded battery capacity. However, according to CNET , the Adaptive Power feature on iOS 26 can help extend battery life.

In terms of color, a series of renders by leaker Majin Bu on social network X shows that the iPhone 17 comes in black, blue, silver, purple and green.

iPhone 17 Air

If nothing changes, the iPhone 17 will have an ultra-thin version (temporarily called the iPhone 17 Air). According to Bloomberg , the device is only 5.5 mm thin at its thinnest point, with a screen size of 6.6 inches (resolution 2,740 x 1,260 pixels).

There have been various rumors about the iPhone 17 Air's processor chip. Previously, Bloomberg said the product was equipped with a standard A19 chip. However, MacRumors in early July predicted that the device would use an A19 Pro chip with 5 GPU cores (down from 6 cores).

To optimize thinness, Apple is likely to "sacrifice" the battery capacity of the iPhone 17 Air. According to MacRumors , the product is expected to be equipped with a 2,800 mAh battery, although it is still possible that Apple will equip high-density silicon battery technology, helping to increase the actual capacity by 15-20%.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to have only one rear camera, similar to the iPhone 16e. The front of the device still retains the Dynamic Island notch, but the selfie camera has been moved from right to left.

While the iPhone 17 may retain 8GB of RAM, rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Air will come with 12GB of RAM, the same as the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.

iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max

Similar to previous years, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are high-end models. Based on rumors, the devices may switch from titanium frames to aluminum to optimize weight.

The biggest upgrade on the iPhone 17 Pro could come in the camera department. Rumors suggest the rear camera cluster on the iPhone 17 Pro will be larger. The lenses are likely to remain arranged in a triangle, while the LED flash, microphone, and LiDAR sensor have been moved to the right.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the telephoto camera on the iPhone 17 Pro will use a 48 MP 1/2.6-inch sensor, an improvement over the 12 MP 1/3.1-inch sensor on the iPhone 16 Pro. The optical zoom capability on the iPhone 17 Pro will also increase from 5x to 8x, alongside a 24 MP selfie camera.

According to rumor expert Ice Universe , Apple is expected to increase the thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro Max from 8.25 mm to 8.725 mm. This allows for the integration of a battery capacity of about 5,000 mAh, an increase of about 324 mAh compared to its predecessor.

If the information is correct, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have the largest battery capacity ever in the iPhone line. In addition, MacRumors predicts that the iPhone 17 Pro will also be equipped with a vapor chamber cooling system, helping to manage temperatures better.

The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are expected to be equipped with the A19 Pro processor chip, manufactured on TSMC's 3rd generation 3nm process (N3P). The N3P process increases the density of transistors on the chip compared to the 2nd generation (N3E) of the A18, helping to improve performance and save energy.

In terms of color, rumors say the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will add new colors, related to iOS 26's Liquid Glass design language. In addition, other information reveals the product comes in black, silver, dark blue, and orange.

New generation Apple Watch

Last year, the Apple Watch Series 10 was a major upgrade with a slimmer design, larger screen, and many new tracking sensors. Therefore, rumors suggest that the Apple Watch Series 11 will only be slightly upgraded with a new processor chip (possibly the S11) and 5G network.

Additionally, MacRumors predicts the device could use a new OLED screen with higher resolution, better energy efficiency, and better brightness optimization.

In March, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman said Apple was testing a blood pressure monitoring system on the new Apple Watch, but it’s unclear whether the feature will be ready in time for the Series 11.

Additionally, the code in watchOS 26 also mentions an unreleased feature called “Sleep Score,” which could be related to sleep tracking.

Following the most recent upgrade in 2023, Apple is expected to launch the next version of the Apple Watch Ultra in September. Based on leaked images from iOS 26, the device is expected to increase the screen size with a resolution of 514 x 422 pixels.

The Watch Ultra 3's connectivity is likely to be upgraded with 5G, satellite services to stay in touch in areas without signal, including messaging and location sharing. The Google Pixel Watch 4 is the first smartwatch to support satellite connectivity.

Other rumored improvements on the Apple Watch Ultra 3 include an S11 processor, fast charging, and a brighter OLED display similar to the Apple Watch Series 11.

With the Apple Watch SE, Apple's cheapest smartwatch line is likely to get a new version. Although rumors are still quite limited, MacRumors predicts the product will have a larger screen (equivalent to the Apple Watch Series 7-9) and a new processor chip.

It is possible that the product will switch to a plastic frame instead of aluminum to save costs, supporting a variety of different colors.

AirPods Pro 3

Apple is rumored to be upgrading its AirPods Pro line of headphones this year. Previously, the AirPods Pro 2 version was launched in 2022, and the company has not made any moves to launch a successor despite continuously introducing new AirPods devices since 2019.

MacRumors first discovered code related to AirPods Pro 3 in the source code of iOS 26. In addition, Bloomberg also predicted that the product will be launched at the iPhone event on September 17.

Based on rumors, AirPods Pro 3 is equipped with a heart rate sensor similar to Powerbeats Pro 2. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple is looking to integrate an infrared camera into AirPods, but the hardware will likely not be completed until AirPods Pro 4.

In March, Apple was granted a patent for a headphone charging case with a front-facing touchscreen, but it’s not certain whether this technology will appear on the AirPods Pro 3.

Among other features, the device could feature an H3 chip to increase battery life, enhance sound quality, and improve active noise cancellation.

Finally, Apple will announce the official release date of a series of new software including iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26... First appeared at the WWDC 2025 conference in June, the software stands out with the Liquid Glass interface and a series of new features.

In July, Apple released a public beta for users to test and refine before the official upgrade in September.
