A dog trapped under rubble for nearly two days in -16°C weather was successfully rescued after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake devastated Qinghai province.
Chinese state media reported on December 24th a video showing rescue workers in Minhe County, Qinghai Province, successfully rescuing a golden retriever from the rubble caused by the earthquake.
In the video, the golden retriever is trapped when its house collapses during the 6.2 magnitude earthquake on December 18th. Nearly two days later, rescuers found it, with all four legs stuck in thick mud in -16°C weather.
Because the dog couldn't stand on its own, the rescue team had to reach deep into the mud to pull it out. When rescued, the animal appeared exhausted and unable to stand. The rescue team took it to a temporary shelter for residents in Kim Dien and reunited it with its owner.

"The earthquake happened so quickly, the ground sank, and I got separated from my dog. My dog is three and a half years old. When the rescuers found him, his whole body was buried in mud, only his head sticking out. I thought I would never see him again," the owner said last weekend.
"Now it's eating and starting to run and jump again," the person said. "I'm truly grateful to the rescue team. After finding my beloved dog, I feel like life has hope again."
The earthquake struck at midnight on December 18th in Xishishan, an area in Gansu province bordering Qinghai province, killing at least 148 people and injuring hundreds. Chinese authorities quickly constructed dozens of evacuation centers with more than 7,500 temporary shelters for residents while search and rescue efforts continued.
