DISQUALIFIED, NOT INJURED
EURO 2020 was the first major tournament where the Spanish national team didn't have any Real Madrid players. Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal were absent due to injury. Now, the situation is quite different: although no one is injured, Real Madrid players haven't been called up to the Spanish national team. Dean Huijsen, Fran Garcia, and Gonzalo Garcia were included in the preliminary list, but when coach Fuente finalized the official squad, they were all left out. Dani Carvajal, Raul Asensio, Alvaro Carreras, and Dani Ceballos were all overlooked.

Fuente clarified his selection principles: "I don't look at the players' origins, I don't look at their clubs. I only care about which players have the potential to play for the national team."
Coach Fuente's football career has been primarily associated with Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla, so he is considered a neutral coach, completely unaffected by the ongoing Real Madrid-Barcelona rivalry in Spanish football. This is also a key difference from the fact that Coach Luis Enrique did not call up any Real Madrid players for EURO 2020. Enrique is seen as an "anti-Real" coach. He only called up 24 players for EURO 2020, even though the maximum allowed was 26. Another issue is that Coach Enrique did not call up Real Madrid players for EURO 2020 because he wanted to control the players' influence.
Barcelona has the most representatives on Spain's World Cup roster (8 players). Next are Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid, each with 3 players. Osasuna, Real Sociedad, and Celta Vigo each have one representative. The remaining 9 players are currently playing for foreign clubs.
Barcelona's prodigy Lamine Yamal is naturally included, despite being injured and unable to play since the end of April. There are even reports suggesting Yamal might not fully recover by the time the World Cup opens. But coach Fuente remains calm: "No problem, if he can't play the first game, Yamal will play the second." Nico Williams (Bilbao) and Mikel Merino (Arsenal) are two other talented players who are injured but still included in the Spanish squad. Conversely, Alvaro Morata (who will captain Spain when they win EURO 2024) is the most notable absence, besides the Real Madrid players. Fermin Lopez (Barcelona) is also unavailable due to injury.
REAL T was a COMPLETE FAILURE
This is the second consecutive season that Real Madrid has failed to win any trophies. Not only did they fail to achieve success, but this season Real also suffered from disciplinary problems: players fighting or verbally abusing the coach… It turns out that this wasn't the end of their disgrace. Even after the season ended, Real fans continued to witness further disappointment.
Like the Spanish players, quite a few of Real Madrid's foreign stars were also not called up by their national teams for this World Cup. Eduardo Camavinga was left out of the French squad. Trent Alexander-Arnold lost his place in the England squad. Rodrygo and Eder Militao already knew they wouldn't be in the Brazil squad due to injuries. Argentina hasn't finalized its official squad yet, but looking at the disappointment of young talent Franco Mastantuono in his first season with Real Madrid, observers believe he is unlikely to find a place in the Argentina squad.
Central defender Dean Huijsen is one of the newest young talents to emerge in Spanish football. He earned a place in the national team while playing for Bournemouth. However, after joining Real Madrid this season for €60 million, Huijsen has failed, losing his place to other equally young central defenders such as Pau Cubarsi (Barcelona) and Marc Pubill (Atletico).
Victor Munoz is the opposite case. Rising through Real Madrid's youth ranks, he only played 47 minutes for Real last season. Having moved to Osasuna for a mere €5 million transfer fee, the 22-year-old winger has been given regular playing time to showcase his talent. He is now preparing for his first World Cup.
