A series of offensive videos were returned when searching for a single letter on Facebook.

Recently, Facebook users in Vietnam were surprised to discover a serious problem with the search engine. When they typed the letter "b" (the letter has been changed), the results returned only 18+ videos, including sexually explicit and offensive content. This phenomenon is not limited to just a few users.

"I accidentally discovered this problem. Worried that my account might have been tampered with or had some kind of error, I asked some acquaintances for help. Unexpectedly, all my accounts returned such terrible results," shared Kim Yen, an office worker residing in Gia Lai province.

According to Tri Thức - Znews , this issue continued to appear on the Facebook app in Vietnam until the afternoon of October 18th. Similar results were returned when searching on Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as the web application. Furthermore, only the letter "b" (which has been changed) and a few other characters caused the appearance of offensive pornographic videos. Most other single letters did not encounter this problem. However, Facebook search results also returned unusual pages and videos unrelated to the account performing the action.

These videos have thumbnails that are pornographic images, without any censorship or special tricks to bypass platform restrictions. The suggested videos are 18+ content of various types, from short self-recorded videos to full-length films from professional content production websites.

Besides recommending pornographic videos, the presence of 18+ content on the platform is also a major issue. According to the community standards of the world's largest social network, such videos are classified as prohibited and will be immediately deleted upon upload. In some cases, the platform permanently disables accounts that engage in such behavior, regardless of market or region.

Currently, the suggested videos feature descriptions in English, Arabic, or Indian. They begin with a "fake" introduction in the form of a television news report. The pornographic content follows.

This serious problem was discovered after Facebook released a major update to its search engine. The changes now prioritize video reels as the top-ranked search result, instead of pages, accounts, or groups. This feature is frustrating because users can no longer search for posts by keyword as before.

The world's largest social network is constantly chasing its rival, TikTok. Reels is a feature that replicates the competitor's platform. Suggesting this content in search results could be a move to increase its global competitiveness.
