Proactively plan for summer-autumn crop production.

QTO - Following the success of the winter-spring crop, Tan My commune is focusing on accelerating the progress of the summer-autumn crop production with a proactive and urgent spirit right from the start of the season. From land preparation and planting to ensuring water supply for production, the local authorities and people are implementing everything synchronously, aiming to both ensure productivity and minimize risks due to unfavorable weather at the end of the season.

The 2025-2026 winter-spring crop season concluded with many positive signs for farmers in Tan My commune. The entire commune planted 1,263 hectares of rice, which has now been harvested, with a yield of 63.17 quintals/hectare, higher than the previous year's crop. Beyond the high yield, the winter-spring season also saw significant changes in the farmers' production mindset.

Farmers are paying more attention to selecting suitable varieties, adhering to planting schedules, and applying mechanization in land preparation and harvesting, thus significantly reducing costs and labor. Many rice fields are developing quite uniformly, with fewer pests and diseases, resulting in high yields. The joy of a successful winter-spring crop has further motivated farmers to enter the summer-autumn production season with a more proactive and enthusiastic mindset.

Immediately after the harvest, across the commune's fields, farmers are busy preparing for the summer-autumn crop. Not letting the land rest for long, many households are bringing in machinery to till the soil, clean the fields, and build embankments to retain water, ensuring timely sowing. These days, despite the intense heat, the atmosphere in the fields remains bustling with activity from early morning until late afternoon.

This year, for the summer-autumn crop season, Tan My commune plans to plant 440 hectares of rice, focusing on short-day varieties with a growth period of less than 95 days, such as BT09, HG244, PC6… to ensure early harvesting and minimize the risk of damage from late-season floods. This is also considered a suitable approach in the context of increasingly unpredictable weather.

"While the winter-spring crop usually has more favorable production conditions, the summer-autumn crop poses many risks, especially the early season heatwave and late season heavy rains. Therefore, proactively managing the planting schedule, selecting suitable varieties, and planting simultaneously are given special attention by the local authorities," said Tran Duy Hung, Head of the Economic Department of Tan My Commune.

By this time, the entire commune has basically finished sowing. Despite the prolonged hot weather, the water supply for production is still largely ensured, creating favorable conditions for farmers to confidently plant their crops.

In the fields of Tan Thai village, Mr. Duong Huu Minh has just finished sowing rice on his family's entire plot. According to Mr. Minh, this year the villagers proactively sowed earlier to avoid the impact of late-season rains and floods.

"The recent winter-spring crop yielded quite well, so everyone is excited. As soon as the previous crop was finished, the farmers immediately started the new one. The weather is hot and sunny, but the water level is stable, making sowing easier. Now we just hope the weather continues to be favorable so the rice can grow well," Mr. Minh shared.

According to local people, compared to the past, farmers no longer produce according to habit but pay more attention to adapting to weather conditions. Short-duration rice varieties are preferred not only to avoid natural disasters but also to facilitate care, harvesting, and reduce pressure at the end of the season.

To ensure the summer-autumn crop production proceeds as planned, the locality has proactively implemented many solutions right from the beginning of the season. Water regulation, inspection of the canal system, and guidance on planting schedules have been carried out early. Villages have also intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage farmers to plant their crops in concentrated areas to limit pest and disease outbreaks and facilitate the cultivation process.

According to Nguyen Van Vuong, Chairman of the Tan My Commune People's Committee, the locality has identified the summer-autumn crop season as a challenging one, so the guidance has been implemented meticulously from the beginning. In addition to guiding the use of short-day rice varieties, the commune also regularly monitors weather conditions, water sources, and pest and disease situations to promptly guide people on appropriate care measures. To date, the planting progress is basically on schedule.

In the coming period, the locality will continue to closely monitor the fields, proactively develop plans to respond to adverse weather conditions, and guide farmers to transition to the care stage, closely monitoring the situation of pests and diseases on young rice plants. Proactive measures from seed selection and planting schedules to water management plans are the basis for Tan My to aim for a productive and high-quality summer-autumn crop.
