According to the report of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, currently, spring rice in the whole province is in the stage of intensive tillering to the end of tillering, a part is in the stage of panicle differentiation - panicle initiation. By April 10, 2024, the whole province has about 2,500 hectares of rice infected with leaf blast disease, concentrated in some susceptible rice varieties such as Nep, TBR225, BC15... In particular, dwarf clumps have appeared on Nep, TBR225 rice varieties, many new lesions, acute lesions are developing with high potential for infection.
The agricultural sector recommends that people stay close to their fields and proactively prevent rice pests and diseases.
The period of unfavorable weather coincides with the period when rice plants are susceptible to blast disease, which is at risk of spreading and causing serious damage in the coming time, affecting spring rice productivity if there are no effective and timely prevention measures. To limit the damage caused by blast disease to spring rice in 2024, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that the People's Committees of districts and cities direct the People's Committees of communes, wards, towns, and agricultural service cooperatives to strengthen field inspections, recommending farmers to take advantage of the dry weather to spray pesticides to prevent and control leaf blast disease according to the instructions of specialized units; keep shallow water in the fields to facilitate rice panicle formation and increase the effectiveness of disease prevention, do not spray foliar fertilizers and growth stimulants, especially on rice areas infected with blast disease, and do not apply single nitrogen fertilizers to nourish panicles and grains.
Strengthen propaganda to make farmers aware that the spring rice area that blooms before May 5, 2024 is at high risk of being infected with rice blast disease if timely disease prevention measures are not applied; at the same time, farmers are advised to spray rice blast disease twice for susceptible rice varieties (the first time when the rice is about to bloom; the second time when the rice field is completely out of bloom). Note that the rice area that blooms in April must be sprayed to prevent rice blast disease in combination with the prevention of small leaf rollers and stem borers in high-density areas. The district and commune-level broadcasting system increases the time to propagate measures for care and prevention of rice blast disease so that farmers can implement them effectively.
Districts and cities direct functional departments, People's Committees of communes, wards and towns, and agricultural service cooperatives to strengthen inspection and supervision of prevention of rice blast and other pests and diseases, strictly manage the trading of pesticides in the area, and prohibit expired or banned pesticides from circulating on the market. Units in the agricultural sector increase technical staff to the grassroots level to coordinate with specialized units and localities and guide farmers on measures to care for and prevent pests and diseases, especially rice blast; continue to investigate and forecast pests and diseases in the fields, promptly notify and guide farmers when they reach the threshold for prevention.
