Leaders of Chieng An ward and functional forces grasp the flooding situation in Phieng Nghe village.

As soon as receiving the information, reporters from Son La Newspaper and Radio and Television were present with the working group of Chieng An ward leaders to inspect the situation at Phieng Nghe village.

According to the reporter's records, at this time, there are still scattered rains during the day, the water level shows signs of continuing to rise, the main road of the commune is flooded about 200m, the deepest point is about 0.5m; the crop production area in the downstream is completely flooded, 7 households have to be evacuated due to water entering their houses and at risk of deep flooding.

Ms. Tong Thi Diep's family of 4, including husband, wife and 2 children, whose house is in the flooded area, has been moved to a relative's house, ensuring the safety of people and property. Ms. Diep said: The rain over the past few days has caused my house to be flooded up to the edge of the floor. To ensure the safety of property and life, the village management board and the surrounding people helped the family move household items, pets... to my parents' house which is higher.

Chieng An ward leaders mobilize disaster response forces.

Because the village has been flooded for many years during the rainy season, the Party Committee and the government of Chieng An ward and the Management Board of Phieng Nghe village have proactively taken measures to respond, mobilizing 4 local forces to guide the evacuation of assets and people to safe places; preparing plans for flood drainage, dredging, and clearing the flow; warning people not to go into deep flooded areas. In addition, people are advised to regularly update weather information and announcements from local authorities, and proactively respond in the coming time.

Project construction area

Previously, Son La province deployed and implemented the Project to invest in the construction of a flood control project in Phieng Nghe village to urgently resolve the flooding situation, including items: Hydraulic tunnel and tunnel body.

According to the report of the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Agricultural and Rural Development Works, up to now, the construction unit is actively drilling the flood drainage tunnel and flood drainage channel. Currently, the foundation of the public road has been completed, implementing 30% of the planned volume; drainage is expected to be ensured in July 2025.

The commune's main road was flooded for many days, making it difficult for people to travel.

Along with infrastructure construction, local authorities pay special attention to propaganda and raising people's awareness of protecting irrigation works, clearing water flows, and not littering, causing blockage of drainage systems.

In the immediate future, Chieng An Ward will support the village with 20 life jackets and 10 life buoys so that the villagers can use boats to transport students and local residents through flooded areas; support 3 million VND for the village's disaster response forces; proactively establish the Ward's Flood and Storm Prevention and Mitigation Steering Committee, assign members to inspect and review landslide-prone areas in the villages in the ward and some severely flooded areas, continue to take response measures when natural disasters occur, ensuring a stable life for the people.
