Proactively respond to high tides combined with heavy rain causing urban flooding

The Steering Committee for Civil Defense - Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PTDS-PCTT&TKCN) of Can Tho City requires localities to proactively guard against high tides combined with heavy rains, water flowing from upstream causing flooding in some low-lying areas, roads along rivers and canals; localities focus on mobilizing resources to maintain, repair, and reinforce dikes to prevent tides, especially weak dike sections to protect rice, fruit gardens, aquaculture areas, etc.

Heavy rains often cause flooding on Cach Mang Thang 8 Street ( Can Tho City), affecting traffic and people's lives.

The central wards of the city such as Ninh Kieu, Tan An, An Binh... need to focus on managing the boat docks (Cai Khe, Hang Bang), the tide-prevention sluices (Dau Sau, Rach Sao, Rach Ranh, Rach Suc, Rach Nuoc Lanh, Pho Tho, Rach Cay Dua, Rach Ba Le, Tran Ngoc Que, and Tham Tuong) and the tide-prevention valves, pumping stations under the Can Tho City Development Project and enhance the urban adaptability to continue to promote efficiency and avoid flooding in the central urban area of ​​Can Tho City.

According to the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue of Can Tho City, since the beginning of the year, the work of supporting and rescuing households affected by natural disasters has been implemented promptly and effectively, helping people overcome the consequences and stabilize their lives.

Up to now, the City Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control has supported 204 million VND from the Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Fund for people to overcome the damage. Localities have also proactively responded to and overcome the consequences caused by natural disasters and have provisionally advanced a total of 257.5 million VND from the Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Fund to support affected households to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and stabilize production...

Since the beginning of 2025, Can Tho City has experienced 41 riverbank landslides with a total length of 1,166m, affecting 39 households, with estimated property damage of more than 6.81 billion VND. Rain and storms occurred 39 times, affecting the houses and facilities of 160 households and injuring 3 people, with an estimated total property damage of 5.43 billion VND.

The city also recorded 2 floods, floods caused by rain and high tides, causing flooding of streets in central wards; affecting 20 households, with an aquaculture area of ​​about 20 hectares in Lich Hoi Thuong commune. Drought and saline intrusion occurred 13 times on Hau River at Tran De, Cai Lon River, Cai Con River, My Thanh River at Du Tho, Quan Lo Phung Hiep Canal... also affecting people's lives and production.
