Over 4,000 people attended the opening ceremony of the 10th Da Nang City Sports Festival 2026, featuring a spectacular and vibrant parade, torch procession, and artistic performances, with 25 official sports and disciplines.

On the afternoon of May 17th, the opening ceremony of the 10th Da Nang City Sports Festival 2026 took place at Tien Son Sports Palace with a large-scale artistic program and parade, attracting more than 4,000 participants. Athletes competed in 25 official sports and disciplines.

The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and leaders from provinces and cities in the Central region. Representing Da Nang City were the Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Vinh; the Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Council Nguyen Duc Dung; the Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Hung; the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang City Le Tri Thanh; the Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi; and leaders from various departments and agencies.

Representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Da Nang City reviewed the formations of 25 marching contingents participating in the opening ceremony.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Games, stated that the 10th Da Nang City Sports and Physical Education Congress is taking place in the context of the city implementing a two-tiered local government model, aiming to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management and promote proactiveness at the grassroots level.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, delivered the opening speech at the congress.

According to Ms. Thi, this is an important prerequisite for the sports and physical training movement to be organized more extensively, synchronously, and closer to the people; creating conditions for each commune, ward, special zone, residential area, agency, and unit to become a nucleus for developing the physical training movement.

The movement "All citizens practice physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh" continues to spread strongly, contributing to the formation of an active, healthy, and civilized lifestyle, in line with the orientation of building Da Nang into a livable and attractive city. Alongside mass sports, the city's high-performance sports continue to affirm their position among the leading localities nationwide, with many athletes achieving outstanding results at national, regional, and international competitions; contributing to the Vietnamese sports delegation at the SEA Games, ASIAD, and the Olympics.

City leaders affirmed that Da Nang will continue to invest systematically in youth training, sports science, innovation, and digital transformation in athlete training and management; developing sports in a modern, professional, and sustainable direction, linked to the economy , tourism, technology, and international integration.

This congress, themed "Da Nang Soars High with the Nation," is an opportunity to comprehensively assess the grassroots sports movement and select outstanding athletes to participate in the 10th National Sports Congress and other regional and international competitions in the near future.

The opening ceremony featured 25 marching contingents including the armed forces, young pioneers, high-performance sports teams, students, workers, sports federations, and local emulation clusters.

At the opening ceremony, representatives of the athletes took an oath to compete fairly and honorably.

Following the ceremony of carrying the national flag and a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh, outstanding athletes from Da Nang's high-performance sports carried the torch from the Ho Chi Minh Museum branch of Military Region 5 to the Games.

The highlight of the program was the elaborately staged artistic performance themed "Da Nang - Rising High with the Nation," featuring over 350 performers and volunteers.

City leaders presented flowers and commemorative flags to the marching contingents participating in the congress.

The 10th Da Nang City Sports Festival in 2026 will feature 25 official sports and disciplines. Prior to the opening ceremony, the city organized events such as chess, Chinese chess, table tennis, women's futsal, cross-country running, stick pushing, tug-of-war, and archery.

The competitions will continue until September.
