The program was organized to raise community awareness about thalassemia, a congenital blood disorder, and to spread the spirit of sharing and supporting patients in difficult circumstances who are receiving treatment at the hospital.

In her opening remarks, Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, Duong Thi Thanh, stated that Thalassemia is a fairly common genetic blood disorder that seriously affects the health, quality of life, and future of patients. For many patients, especially young children, the treatment journey is a long process involving regular blood transfusions, iron chelation therapy, and lifelong monitoring. Not only do they face health challenges, but many families also experience significant economic and emotional pressure. Therefore, raising community awareness about Thalassemia, especially the role of screening, early diagnosis, and pre-marital counseling, is crucial in prevention and reducing the burden of the disease on families and society.

At the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center of Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, the number of thalassemia patients seeking examination and treatment is increasing, with many cases requiring regular and prolonged treatment. This necessitates the support not only of the healthcare sector but also of society as a whole to help patients maintain stable treatment.
In addition to their professional duties, the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center and the Social Work Department of the hospital have actively connected with organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to support patients in difficult circumstances. Many practical activities such as giving gifts, supporting treatment costs, and providing moral support have been implemented, contributing to giving patients more motivation to overcome their illnesses.

In response to the message of World Thalassemia Day 2026, “Hidden No More: Finding the Undiagnosed. Supporting the Unseen,” the program is not only an opportunity to share medical knowledge but also a bridge to spread love, empathy, and community responsibility towards thalassemia patients.

Within the framework of the program, representatives of patients and their families shared the difficulties they faced during treatment, as well as the support and companionship they received from the medical team and the community. The touching stories shared at the program resonated with and evoked empathy from the attending delegates.

On this occasion, many meaningful gifts were presented by philanthropists and partner organizations to Thalassemia patients in difficult circumstances who are receiving treatment at the hospital.

These gifts not only have material value but also serve as a source of moral support, boosting confidence and strength so that patients can feel at ease during their long-term treatment.

Through this program, Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital hopes to continue spreading correct awareness about Thalassemia; and at the same time, call for the community's cooperation in screening, genetic counseling, and supporting patients, contributing to reducing the burden of disease on families and society.
