Join hands to build new countryside
The road connecting National Highway 1A to Ben Den Parish, Duc Chau Commune (including the communes: Dien Hong, Dien Ky, Dien Phong and Dien Van, Ben Den Parish belongs to the old Dien Ky Commune) is full of flowers on both sides, at night there is high voltage electricity, 2 rows of flags (one side hangs the national flag, the other side hangs the Church flag) creating a beautiful landscape and showing the spirit of solidarity between Catholics and non-Catholics. The roads here have been expanded, paved with asphalt and concrete, making travel easier and more convenient.

In recent years, the Pastoral Council has coordinated with the Party Committee and the village executive committee to mobilize people to build many valuable projects such as intra-field canals; build rural concrete roads; renovate cultural houses, and renovate soccer and volleyball fields to meet the cultural and sports exchange needs of the people, with a budget of nearly 600 million VND.
To complete the concreting of intra-village roads with a total length of more than 4.5 km, people contributed nearly 2 billion VND and more than 6,200 working days, donated more than 2,000 square meters of land, demolished 9 house gates and 1,800 meters of surrounding walls, and cut down more than 100 perennial fruit trees.

In particular, according to Mr. Nguyen Trung Duc - Chairman of the Pastoral Council of Ben Den Parish, in 2022 there is a project to build an inter-commune road through the parish, according to the design of the road surface is 9m wide, while the old road is only 5m wide. To create consensus, members of the village executive committee and the Pastoral Council went to each household to persuade people to agree to move the fence back to open the road.
Thanks to that, the 1.6 km long road through Ben Den Parish was soon completed. As a result, the people donated nearly 2,000 m2 of residential land, more than 2,000 m2 of agricultural land, more than 1,600 m of fence and 7 house gates. Of which, Mr. Nguyen Van Lieu's family and Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong's family voluntarily removed 2 large gates that had just been built at a cost of hundreds of millions of VND. At the same time, the priest of Ben Den Parish agreed to move back the fence and donate more than 100 m2 of land to expand the inter-commune road.

Not only Ben Den Parish, many parishes and parishes in the province have also actively responded to the movement of building new rural areas and civilized urban areas, contributing to building an increasingly prosperous homeland. It is worth mentioning Hung Thinh Parish in Hung Nguyen Commune (including the communes: Hung Dao, Hung Tay, Thinh My and Hung Nguyen town, Hung Nguyen district merged; Hung Thinh Parish in the old Hung Tay Commune), parishioners have actively donated land to build rural roads. The area of land donated is up to nearly 2,000m2, contributing to changing the face of the countryside and beautifying the village.
At Dong Lam Parish in Nhan Hoa Commune (including the merged communes of Tam Dinh, Cam Son and Hung Son; Dong Lam Parish in the old Hung Son Commune), 2,200m of green borders were planted along inter-village roads, 1.1 billion VND was contributed to build 2 cultural houses; 300 flagpoles were made, and a 3km long flower street worth 600 million VND was built.

From 2023 to 2024, parishioners contributed nearly 2,000 working days, constructed 2.3 km of concrete road, 1 km of asphalt road, and donated thousands of square meters of land to build rural roads and new rural projects.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial Catholic Solidarity Committee; in the movement "Joining hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", the Catholic community voluntarily donated 192,702m² of land, dismantled 48,349 meters of fences, cut down thousands of trees of all kinds; contributed 286,784 working days, converted into cash worth over 57 billion VND. Contributed 114 billion 883 million VND; renewed 83 km of asphalt roads, concreted 1,170 km of rural roads, built 1,135 km of drainage ditches, repaired 29 cultural houses, built 85,295m of lighting lines, 8,077 flagpoles, planted 142,458 trees...
Prosperity in the parishes
For more than 10 years, Phu Xuan Parish in Quynh Tam Commune (including the communes of Tan Son, Quynh Chau and Quynh Tam, Quynh Luu District merged; Phu Xuan Parish in the old Quynh Tam Commune) has implemented the model of "Peaceful Parish" which has brought practical results to the process of socio -economic development.
The model focuses on the following contents: Crime prevention, social evil prevention, educating young people to live healthily, promoting community solidarity, maintaining security and order. The model also cleverly integrates Catholic moral values with the nation's fine cultural traditions such as the spirit of mutual love, mutual assistance in difficult times. Thereby, helping parishioners feel secure in living and working, maintaining security and order, and living "Good life, good religion".
Mr. Tran Van Quang - Chairman of the Pastoral Council of Phu Xuan Parish said: "For the model to operate effectively, the Pastoral Council of the Parish and the parishes always focus on guiding parishioners to practice their faith in accordance with the doctrine, canon law and strictly comply with the provisions of the law and the model's internal regulations. People proactively detect and denounce crimes, do not listen to distorted arguments, and divide the solidarity of the whole people."

According to Mr. Quang, the parish has established a security team and 25 self-governing inter-family groups, which regularly patrol to ensure security and order. Before mass, the parish priest always reminds the community, especially the youth, to stay away from social evils, maintain morality and a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to that, the parish area always ensures security and order, people's lives are stable, and the economy develops.
Many parishes in the province have also promoted the spirit of solidarity and actively responded to patriotic emulation movements. Catholics have promoted the spirit of self-reliance, overcoming difficulties, and boldly changing the structure of crops and livestock to suit the climate and soil conditions of each region.
Many households have applied scientific and technical advances to agricultural production, introduced new varieties of plants and animals with high productivity and quality into production; built large-scale model fields for outstanding income efficiency, with an average yield of over 65 quintals/ha/year.

In addition, Catholic households have also promoted the development of production and business sectors in the fields of forestry, fisheries, small-scale industry and trade services. The movement has contributed positively to poverty reduction, while increasing the proportion of well-off and wealthy households among Catholics.
Specifically, the rate of well-off and rich households among Catholics increased from 41.2% in 2020 to 52.4% in 2024; meanwhile, the rate of poor households decreased from 4.2% to 2.9%. Cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities were focused on and gradually developed. The rate of Catholic households achieving the title of "Cultural Family" is increasing, in 2020 there were 42,621 households (reaching 69.8%), by 2024 there were 44,406 households (reaching 78.2%).

With the implementation of patriotic emulation movements, the rural appearance of parishes and parishes is increasingly spacious, clean and beautiful; the material and spiritual life of parishioners is gradually improved. The position and role of Catholics in the community are increasingly affirmed. At the Patriotic Emulation Congress to honor good people and good deeds among Catholics in Nghe An province, 19 collectives and individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee, 14 collectives and individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee.
