Enhanced technology

In the context of increasing demand for environmentally friendly products and high export standards, the paper and packaging industry in Vietnam is emerging as a potential sector. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the export turnover of paper and paper products in 2024 will reach more than 2 billion USD, an average increase of 10-12%/year over the past 5 years. The paper and packaging industry is forecast to reach an export scale of 3.5 billion USD in 2026, thanks to the trend of replacing plastic packaging and the development of e-commerce.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Sang, Chairman of the Vietnam Packaging Association (Vinpas), said that the Vietnamese packaging industry has great advantages and its growth is also higher than the world average. Specifically, the growth of the plastic packaging industry will reach 8.39%, and that of paper packaging will reach 9.73% in 2024. Meanwhile, the global growth rate is only 3.6% for plastic packaging and 4.7% for paper packaging. Major trends are reshaping the structure of Vietnam's packaging industry. In particular, digital transformation and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are important driving forces as AI is helping packaging businesses optimize their supply chains and reach consumers more directly and accurately. Packaging is no longer limited to technical or marketing functions as before, but the market requires it to be highly aesthetic, intelligent, able to connect products with consumers, reflecting the values and social responsibility of the enterprise.

Mr. Hoang Trung Son, Chairman of the Vietnam Pulp and Paper Association, affirmed that VPPE 2025 is not only a place to introduce new products and update advanced technologies from countries with developed paper industries such as Japan, France, Germany, etc., but also a space for businesses to seek opportunities for cooperation and technological innovation; at the same time, promote sustainable development goals, green production, AI application and digital transformation. The exhibition will feature a series of important and prestigious specialized events of the Vietnamese paper and packaging industry, focusing on introducing technical solutions, new technologies and modern machinery and equipment.

Catch up with the trend

Currently, Binh Duong is one of the leading localities in the country in industrial development, with nearly 30 industrial parks. The packaging industry, especially paper packaging, plays an essential supporting role for key export sectors such as textiles, footwear, electronics, food, wooden furniture, etc. At VPPE 2025, many domestic enterprises signed technology cooperation agreements, looking for suppliers of raw materials that meet international standards to serve both domestic and export markets. Equipment displayed at VPPE 2025 includes automatic paper production machines, paper bag production lines, high-speed offset printers, water reuse systems, environmentally friendly paper surface treatment chemicals, etc.

This year's exhibition saw the participation of many major international brands such as Konica Minolta, Andritz, Pulppy, OKI, Polystron, and domestic enterprises such as Liksin, An Lac Labels, Khai Tue, MCCAL, Sunrise... The large presence of international units shows the attractiveness of the Vietnamese packaging market. According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhat, Director of Nhat Nam Company Limited, green packaging is no longer a trend but a requirement from the law, consumers and the business community... For export enterprises, strict compliance with regulations on environmental standards and green production is a very necessary requirement. The company is always looking for suppliers who meet the standards for export markets.

Not only for export, but also for the domestic market, the requirements for packaging standardization are also strict. With steady growth, a sustainable development strategy and the goal of reducing net emissions to “0” by 2050 as committed by the Government, the Vietnamese paper and packaging industry is expected to continue to boom in the period 2025-2030. Many businesses are investing heavily in recycling technology, using bio-pulp and circular economy models.

According to the leader of Khoi Thinh Co., Ltd., the application of recycled materials and energy-saving production processes not only helps reduce costs but also meets the growing demand for green consumption. In particular, paper packaging for food delivery and e-commerce is growing strongly, with sophisticated designs to enhance the user experience.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Sang added that in addition to the exhibition area, VPPE 2025 also organizes a series of seminars to update technology trends and share production management experiences. Topics focus on digital technology applications in the paper industry, energy saving, export packaging standards and green transformation in the supporting industry. Within the framework of the exhibition, the 2025 Vietnam Packaging Enterprise General Conference discusses many solutions to promote sustainable development, especially in the face of increasingly stringent requirements on traceability and environmental standards from new-generation free trade agreements.

Mr. Bui Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that VPPE 2025 not only attracts investment and promotes the development of supporting industries, but also opens up opportunities for businesses to access green production, enhance value and competitiveness. This is an opportunity for businesses to promote their brands, expand markets, approach potential customers and partners, introduce new machinery, equipment, and technologies... Binh Duong is committed to creating favorable conditions and promptly resolving difficulties and obstacles so that businesses can operate effectively and continuously develop in the province.
