From July 26-27, the 8th International Scientific Conference on Sensory Evaluation was held at the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. The event is an international scientific conference on Sensory Evaluation held in Vietnam with the participation of the world's leading experts in the fields of sensory science, consumer science, applied statistics and machine learning.
SPISE is an opportunity for scientists, students, practitioners and businesses from all over Asia to meet and exchange with leading scientists in the world . The goal of this conference is to support and strongly promote the digital transformation process and understand consumers in fast-moving consumer goods businesses.
Following the success of previous events, SPISE 2024 is held in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of more than 100 professors, researchers, scientists, R&D teams of businesses from many places around the world (USA, France, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, ...).
The theme of this workshop is to develop product formulas, research consumer behavior, apply machine learning to big data processing to meet the increasing and diverse needs of Vietnamese consumers, as well as expand exports to international markets.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Ky Phuong Ha - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU-HCM said: “Founded in 2005, SPISE has developed from a workshop into a prestigious international conference with 7 successful events, with a scale and quality surpassing previous ones. SPISE 2024 not only emphasizes the importance of sensory science but also reflects our commitment to promoting innovation and collaboration in continuous scientific research.
SPISE 2024 aims to explore the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technologies on sensory evaluation methods. The dynamism of product development requires faster and more flexible approaches that challenge existing sensory methods.”
At this workshop, the Product Research and Development team of Masan Consumer Corporation presented the topic: “The role of sensory science in successfully developing products at Masan Consumer”.
According to Ms. Le Thi Nga, Senior Director of Product Research & Development, “Sensory science is integrated into the Consumer Innovation Center (CIC) and Consumer-In-Love (CIL) models. The new model helps us to directly approach, co-develop products and serve the needs of consumers.
Scientifically, the new model allows for the simultaneous implementation of both qualitative and quantitative methods. Masan Consumer applies sensory science throughout the product development process and this is truly a powerful tool to support R&D to create superior products. Sensory science therefore continues to be Masan Consumer’s outstanding competitive advantage to increase the success rate of new products in the market.”
SPISE 2024 also has sideline activities, including 3 courses (1) Analysis of consumer data and product sensory properties applied on jamovi software; (2) Advanced analysis techniques in multidimensional data processing: MCA, MFA and PLS on R software; and (3) New product development process in the food industry: from strategy to implementation.
