Where are those glorious days now?
Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC, formerly Becamex Binh Duong FC, was once dubbed "Vietnam's Chelsea" because they consistently recruited many talented players and often achieved impressive results in both the V-League and international tournaments they participated in. During their heyday, Becamex Binh Duong FC was the first Vietnamese football team to reach the semi-finals of an international club competition. This was when they defeated Chonburi (Thailand) 4-2 over two legs to reach the semi-finals of the AFC Cup in 2009. They also won the Mekong Club Championship in 2014.

In domestic competitions, the team from the Southeast region also boasts impressive achievements, winning the V-League championship in 2007, 2008, 2014, and 2015. During those four years, they also won the National Super Cup. Furthermore, they won the National Cup in 2015 and 2018.
With their elegant playing style and consistently well-prepared squad, Becamex Binh Duong FC has always been in the top half of the V-League standings. Relegation has never been a concern for them. However, this season, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC is in a precarious situation after their 0-1 defeat against SLNA FC in Round 24 on May 24th. In that match, a home win would have given Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC a strong chance of avoiding relegation, yet Coach Hua Hien Vinh's team failed to secure it. Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC's squad this season isn't necessarily weak, as they still have players like Ho Tan Tai, Ngo Tung Quoc, Vo Hoang Minh Khoa, Bui Vi Hao, Doan Tuan Canh…, along with foreign players such as Zlatkovic Milos and Ogochukwu Oduenyi.
Overcoming mountains in the last two rounds
Currently, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC is on the verge of relegation, sitting in 12th place with 21 points, just one point ahead of Da Nang FC and three points ahead of PVF-CAND FC.
Becamex TP.HCM faces a tough challenge in round 25 as they must confront the newly crowned champions, Hanoi Police FC (CAHN). Although CAHN has already secured the title, their players are still giving their all, especially playing at home to please their fans. This is a formidable obstacle for Vo Hoang Minh Khoa and his teammates. If they don't improve their playing style, particularly the finishing ability of their forwards, Becamex TP.HCM will struggle to earn any points in this match.
In the final round, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City faces another formidable opponent: HAGL FC. Currently, HAGL FC is not yet safe, with only 23 points and sitting one place above Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC. If HAGL fails to secure any points against Hanoi FC in round 25, their final clash will become a crucial "relegation battle." In this do-or-die situation, any mistake could be costly, and if coach Hua Hien Vinh doesn't find a way to strengthen his players, they could face a relegation play-off or even relegation.
In this difficult situation, unable to earn any points, the former "Vietnamese Chelsea" could only hope that the two teams behind them, Da Nang FC and PVF-CAND FC, also failed to score in the last two rounds. However, this is highly unlikely, so Becamex Ho Chi Minh City must save itself.
