The match between Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club and PVF-CAND on the evening of November 14th (round 4 of the 2024-2025 First Division League) concluded with the most notable event being... a brawl between players in the tunnel of Thong Nhat Stadium.
According to security camera footage, striker Nguyen Xuan Nam (PVF-CAND) and defender Vu Van Son (Ho Chi Minh City Youth team) got into a fight. Both players lunged at each other before teammates and security personnel intervened. The collision resulted in Xuan Nam having a torn lip and bleeding, while Van Son also sustained bruises on his face and head.
Announcement from PVF-CAND Club. However, the post no longer exists.
On the morning of November 15th, PVF-CAND Club, the club of striker Xuan Nam, issued a statement regarding the incident: "Immediately after the match between Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club and PVF-CAND Club ended, the match supervisor and coordinator instructed the visiting team's players to head towards the tunnel to enter the changing rooms. As players Xuan Nam and Anh Tuan passed the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club's dugout, player Vu Van Son verbally abused them, witnessed by an assistant coach of Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club. To avoid a confrontation, the PVF-CAND coaching staff instructed the players to use a different route to enter the changing rooms."
Upon arriving in front of the PVF-CAND club's changing room, striker Xuan Nam told Vu Van Son: "Don't be rude here, let's talk outside." Van Son then cursed back at Xuan Nam, and Xuan Nam pushed Son. Immediately, Van Son swung a powerful punch, causing Xuan Nam to suffer a cut to his mouth (the incident happened quickly and unexpectedly, and everyone present witnessed it). Xuan Nam reacted, but the riot police and other players intervened.
Regarding the video footage, because Vu Van Son's punch was quick and unexpected right after Xuan Nam's push, it will be noticeable if you watch carefully. Please watch the video very carefully!
The PVF-CAND team also commented: "There was absolutely no instance of Xuan Nam using abusive language or physically punching as player Vu Van Son shared and posted on social media. There were many riot police and players present in the stadium tunnel at the time. The authorities will determine what is right and wrong. Witnesses and evidence are all available."
Player Van Son also has bruises on his face.
Conversely, Van Son asserted that after entering the tunnel, when he went into the changing room, Xuan Nam cursed at him, challenged him to meet outside the Thong Nhat Stadium gate, and then shoved him. Son said that when he pushed Xuan Nam away, Nam punched him, so the 2003-born central defender punched back.
In our previous report, we interviewed Van Son. Son confirmed: "There were cameras everywhere. The information that Mr. Nam arranged to meet me outside the Thong Nhat Stadium gate is also true." Van Son added: "He hit me on the head with a studded shoe and punched me in the mouth. But I'm fine, my health is still okay."
Today, the Disciplinary Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will announce the penalties for both players.
In the latest development, as of this morning, Xuan Nam's club has deleted the post about the incident.
