Ho Chi Minh City FC is busy rebuilding its core squad after a turbulent season. The team, based at Thong Nhat Stadium, has parted ways with midfielder Hoang Vinh Nguyen, who previously trained in Spain, and has also terminated the contract with coach Phung Thanh Phuong after the V-League 2024-2025 season concludes.

Hoang Vinh Nguyen was once expected to help revitalize the attacking line of Ho Chi Minh City FC.
Coach Phùng Thanh Phương played a major role in helping the "red battleship" successfully avoid relegation in the V-League, even creating a surprise by finishing in 4th place in the 2023-2024 V-League season. However, the former national team player, born in 1978 and originating from Ho Chi Minh City football, has decided not to renew his contract with Ho Chi Minh City FC.
The reason coach Phung Thanh Phuong is leaving the "red battleship" is because he wants to spend more time with his family. According to new AFC regulations, from the 2025-2026 season onwards, coaches leading teams in the V-League are required to have a Pro coaching license.

Coach Phùng Thanh Phương played a major role in helping Ho Chi Minh City FC successfully avoid relegation in the V-League for two consecutive seasons.
Coach Phùng Thanh Phương missed this coaching course because he spent time caring for a sick family member. Therefore, he is not eligible to continue as head coach of Ho Chi Minh City FC. The club's management offered Coach Phùng Thanh Phương a position as an assistant coach, but this was unsuccessful.
"I want to spend some time resting with my family after a long and stressful work schedule. When the VFF and AFC reopen the Pro classes, I will register to learn about modern football trends and qualify to return to the V-League. I always hope that Ho Chi Minh City FC will develop sustainably and achieve many successes," shared coach Phung Thanh Phuong.

Ho Chi Minh City FC will undergo many changes ahead of the 2025-2026 season.
At the same time, the leadership of Ho Chi Minh City FC confirmed that they are finalizing the last steps to appoint a Spanish coach to replace Mr. Phuong. This important change is expected to bring a "fresh breeze" to the team's tactical approach, creating appeal for football fans in Ho Chi Minh City.
