CLIP: Experience the personal AI assistant on Google Gemini

Google has recently officially opened free access to Gems - one of the outstanding AI features of the Gemini platform - for all users. This is considered a remarkable step in the race to personalize AI, allowing users to create virtual assistants in their own style.

Previously, Gems were only available to paid users through the Gemini Advanced or Google One AI Premium plans.

Gems is a customizable tool that can program roles, tones, and interaction habits, helping to automate repetitive tasks or handle specialized requests such as content writing, work management, learning consulting, etc.

Notably, unlike the free version of ChatGPT, which does not save chat history, the user-created AI assistant with Gems can remember previously taught contexts, habits, and writing styles.

However, real-world experience shows that Gems still cannot compete with rivals like ChatGPT or Grok when it comes to in-depth analysis or up-to-date information aggregation.

Mr. Le Minh Hoang, an office worker in District 3 (HCMC), tried the personalization feature of Google Gemini and found that in the same information search situation, the ability of this AI is still limited compared to ChatGPT, Grok or Deepseek.

“I asked Gemini to summarize short video advertising trends in the first quarter of 2025. The result was just a few general summaries. Meanwhile, ChatGPT listed reports and specific sources; Grok also listed data from major platforms, with reference links," Mr. Hoang compared.

Many users commented that the AI on Gemini is easy to use but not really smart, so they still prefer to use ChatGPT and Grok.

Mr. Hoang Viet Hung (living in Ho Chi Minh City) tried using this particular AI as an AI “tutor” to study and do homework. However, despite clearly describing the field he was studying, the actual results were not as expected.

"I asked Gemini to analyze how rising oil prices affect inflation, but only received a general answer that it affects transportation costs. Gemini is only suitable for quick summaries, not for exercises that require explanation and in-depth analysis," Mr. Hung commented.

Although it cannot be compared with ChatGPT or Grok at the present time, Gems is still considered a partner of users in work and study.

Google is developing new versions of AI such as Gemini 2.5, Veo3 with the expectation of improving the ability to understand context and respond in depth.

To create an AI assistant by Gems, users only need to perform 3 steps: access Gemini, select "New Gem", then enter the role description and click the save button. For example: "You are a content partner who helps me write fun sales captions every day following TikTok and Instagram trends".

After a few interactions, the AI will remember the user's desired style.
