Sharing at the press conference for the movie "Sweet Home 3" held on July 17 in Korea, director Lee Eung Bok affirmed that the movie will reach a grand ending for the characters.
“I would say that season 3 is really a homecoming. It feels like coming home. It's a story about friends, comrades, and characters coming together again,” the director said.
Accordingly, season 1 of the film focuses on the struggles of Cha Hyun Soo (Song Kang) and the surviving residents of Green Home when they are transferred to the refugee camp. Season 2, the film deals with more diverse stories taking place in a larger open space.
The Korea Times commented that the series "Sweet Home" was once praised for opening a new era for the genre of movies about monsters and giant creatures produced by Korea.
The first season, starring Song Kang, attracted attention when it topped Netflix's charts in 13 countries within 4 days of its release in 2020 and became the first Korean content to enter the streaming giant's top 10 chart in the US.
Season 2, released in 2023, although still in Netflix's global top 10 chart for 2 consecutive weeks and entered the top 10 list in 42 countries, is regrettable because the story becomes too complicated due to the appearance of many new characters.
Seemingly aware of the criticism from the audience, in the final season, director Lee Eung Bok expressed hope that the drama will bring more entertainment to the audience. “Season 3 brings a lot of things and I hope the excitement will return to the viewers.”
Meanwhile, actor Lee Jin Wook - who plays Pyeon Sang Wook - a former assassin and one of the main characters in the film, expressed his wish for the audience to follow the ending of the multi-dimensional stories that have taken place so far.
“Season 3 brings together all the events that have happened and come to an end. The difference is that the characters who have gone through many different experiences in the previous 2 seasons will have changes in their abilities and create results.”
Lee Si Young, the actress who plays Seo Yi Kyung, who gives birth to a monster child and shows maternal love to protect the child, expressed her gratitude for being able to participate in the drama “Sweet Home.”
“When we did ‘Sweet Home 1’, we shot for almost a year, and that was the longest I’ve ever shot a project. And now we’ve done season 3. It’s been a memorable and cherished experience in my life, spending 5 years together.”
Season 3 of “Sweet Home” will premiere on July 19.
