Speaking at the press conference for "Sweet Home 3" held on July 17th in South Korea, director Lee Eung Bok affirmed that the film will reach a spectacular conclusion for the characters.
"I can say that season 3 is truly a homecoming. It feels like coming home. This is a story about friends, comrades, and characters reuniting," the director said.
Accordingly, season 1 of the series focuses on the struggles of Cha Hyun Soo (Song Kang) and the surviving residents of Green Home as they are transferred to a refugee camp. Season 2 explores more diverse stories taking place in a larger, open space.
The Korea Times noted that the "Sweet Home" series was once praised for ushering in a new era for South Korean-produced monster and giant creature films.
The first season, starring Song Kang, garnered attention by topping Netflix charts in 13 countries within four days of its release in 2020 and becoming the first Korean content to enter the top 10 of the streaming giant's US chart.
Season 2, released in 2023, remained in Netflix's global top 10 for two consecutive weeks and made it into the top 10 in 42 countries, but unfortunately, the story became too complicated due to the introduction of many new characters.
Seemingly aware of the audience's criticism, in the final season, director Lee Eung Bok expressed hope that the series would offer more entertainment to viewers. "Season 3 brought many things, and I hope the excitement will return to the viewers."
Meanwhile, actor Lee Jin Wook, who plays Pyeon Sang Wook, a former assassin and one of the main characters in the drama, expressed his hope that viewers would follow the conclusion of the multifaceted storylines that have unfolded so far.
"Season 3 brings together all the events that have taken place and brings them to a conclusion. The difference is that the characters, having gone through various experiences in the previous two seasons, will have changes in their abilities and produce different outcomes."
Lee Si Young, the actress who plays Seo Yi Kyung, a woman who gives birth to a monster child and displays maternal love to protect her child, expressed her gratitude for being a part of the drama "Sweet Home".
“When we filmed ‘Sweet Home 1,’ we shot for almost a year, and that was the longest time I’ve ever spent on a project. And now we’ve finished season 3. It’s been a memorable and cherished experience in my life, having spent five years together.”
Season 3 of “Sweet Home” will premiere on July 19th.
