Young star from Da Nang FC gets a chance to 'showcase' himself to coach Troussier.

Da Nang FC's relegation is largely the responsibility of the club's management, as young players like Duy Cuong, Phi Hoang, and Dinh Duy could hardly carry a demoralized team. However, it must also be acknowledged that this trio from the Vietnam U23 team did not perform well.

In the 2023 V-League season, Phi Hoang and Dinh Duy seemed to have completely lost their form. These two attacking players failed to score a single goal. Da Nang FC also had the weakest attack in the league, with only 11 goals scored.

In the 2022 season, Phi Hoang and Dinh Duy showed a different side. The duo played brilliantly, contributing significantly to Da Nang FC's style of play, scoring 3 and 4 goals respectively in the V-League 2022 and receiving well-deserved rewards.

Phi Hoang became the best young player in V-League 2022, while Dinh Duy was called up to the Vietnamese national team by coach Park Hang-seo. Becoming a key player for Da Nang FC gave Phi Hoang and Dinh Duy many opportunities, but it also put both players at a disadvantage.

Essentially, they play regularly in the V-League, but it's difficult for them to participate in regional and continental youth tournaments due to their commitments to their respective clubs, which are battling to avoid relegation.

This makes it more difficult for Phi Hoang and Dinh Duy to integrate into the youth teams. It's also partly why the duo are frequently left out of coach Philippe Troussier's training or match rosters.

Therefore, in this 2023 Southeast Asian U.23 Championship, the two young attacking stars of Da Nang Club need to make a positive impression to be given a chance by the French strategist, after their disappointing performance at the SEA Games 32.

Conversely, Duy Cương was once trusted by coach Troussier, given a starting spot in the three-man central defense of the Vietnam U23 team. At the Doha Cup, preparing for the SEA Games 32, he did not perform well, revealing some limitations in his positioning.

He has also frequently been criticized for being overly confident in dribbling forward to initiate attacks.

At the 32nd SEA Games, Duy Cương was a starter, even wearing the captain's armband against weaker opponents like Singapore and Laos. However, mistakes cost him his place in crucial matches against Malaysia, Thailand, and the semi-final against Indonesia. In the 2023 V-League, the central defender also failed to perform outstandingly.

With his current form, it's unlikely this central defender will be able to break back into the starting lineup of the "real" Vietnam U.23 team under coach Troussier, preparing for the U.23 Asian Championship qualifiers in September, and further ahead to the 2024 U.23 Asian Championship finals.

However, Duy Cuong is the most experienced player on the Vietnam U23 team in Thailand, and was appointed vice-captain by coach Hoang Anh Tuan. He absolutely needs to shine to prove his worth. Similarly, Phi Hoang and Dinh Duy also need to excel to impress coach Troussier.
