From 2003 to 2023, although the age of each SEA Games in men's football has changed, the results of the confrontations between Vietnam and Laos have remained unchanged: victory always belongs to Vietnam.
Specifically, Vietnam and Laos have met 8 times since SEA Games 22 (2003).
All 8 times, the Vietnamese youth teams won, scoring 34 goals and only conceding 5. At the 23rd and 24th SEA Games, the young Vietnamese football players even scored 8 goals against Laos.
At SEA Games 27, U22 Vietnam beat Laos 5-0. And another big score happened at SEA Games 30 when U22 Vietnam defeated Laos 6-1.
In the past 22 years, despite having had big victories, there were also SEA Games where U22 Vietnam faced many difficulties when facing Laos. At SEA Games 22, despite having home field advantage, U22 Vietnam only beat Laos 1-0.
Similarly, at the 28th SEA Games, Vietnam only defeated Laos with a minimal score of 1-0. At the most recent SEA Games (2023), Vietnam also faced Laos in the opening match of men's football. Coach Philippe Troussier's team won a rather difficult 2-0 victory.
That absolute head-to-head record helps U22 Vietnam be confident of victory, even a big victory against U22 Laos when the two teams face each other at 4:00 p.m. today, December 3.
Head-to-head results between Laos and Vietnam in the last 8 SEA Games:
SEA Games 22 (2003): Vietnam - Laos 1-0.
SEA Games 23 (2005): Vietnam - Laos 8-2.
SEA Games 24 (2007): Vietnam - Laos 8-1.
SEA Games 26 (2011): Vietnam - Laos 3-1.
SEA Games 27 (2013): Vietnam - Laos 5-0.
SEA Games 28 (2015): Vietnam - Laos 1-0.
SEA Games 30 (2019): Vietnam - Laos 6-1.
SEA Games 32 (2023): Vietnam - Laos 2-0.
