The trend of Korean doctors coming to work in Vietnam is becoming more active this year.

Hospitals in many localities in Vietnam also offer special working conditions for Korean doctors such as a 44-hour work week and a monthly salary of 30 million won (about 23,000 USD).

According to information from the Korean medical community, more than 30 Korean doctors have registered to participate in the English exam for foreign doctors held at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City on November 2.

This group of doctors went to Ho Chi Minh City late last month for health check-ups with the aim of being licensed to practice at hospitals in Vietnam.

Vietnam does not require doctors from countries with high medical standards to submit their own professional qualification test scores, but requires applicants to submit notarized documents such as a medical license from their home country. However, applicants must undergo a medical examination and an English test by a medical professional in Vietnam.

As of 2020, the number of doctors per 1,000 people in Vietnam was 0.99, less than half of the 2.5 in Korea. Recently, as the number of Korean doctors wishing to enter the Vietnamese market has increased, intermediary companies have emerged to quickly process notarized documents and complete procedures in Vietnam on their behalf.

An official from an intermediary company said that during this time, not only famous cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists but also emergency doctors and dentists have applied for practice certificates to work in Vietnam.

It is reported that many Korean resident doctors are in a wave of resignations due to dissatisfaction with the environment in Korea and are also considering going abroad.

Vinmec Healthcare System, a subsidiary of Vingroup, has taken the lead in recruiting Korean doctors including internal medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology specialists in May and June.

In the recruitment notice, special working conditions are given for Korean doctors including: working at a modern hospital with an area of 4,000m2 in Hanoi, working hours of 44 hours/week, monthly salary of 30 million won and housing support of about 1.08 million won/month./.
