Smoke-free medical facilities are a requirement.

Professor, Dr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, said that medical facilities across the country have actively implemented the smoke-free hospital model. However, with the emergence of electronic cigarette and heated tobacco products with many marketing tactics targeting teenagers, the health sector must be more determined and resolute.

The Deputy Minister of Health emphasized: If hospitals still tolerate cigarette smoke, it will be difficult to demand change from society. Therefore, the heads of hospitals, medical centers, clinics, and medical facilities must take direct responsibility for the results of building a smoke-free environment. A smoke-free medical facility is not only a mandatory requirement, but also a professional standard, a measure of hospital culture, and an ethical commitment of physicians.

Professor Thuan suggested that every hospital, every department, every room, every medical staff, every patient and their family members join hands to make "smoke-free medical facilities" become the daily norm.

To replicate the model of implementing regulations on smoke-free medical facilities, the first Smoke-Free Medical Facility Contest was launched by the Health and Life Newspaper, for medical facilities nationwide. Contestants register online at khongkhoithuocla.vn until September 27, 2025.
