Experts predict that the market will continue to grow in 2025 thanks to the AI PC trend. According to a report from Gartner , the total AI PC shipments in 2025 will increase by 165.5% globally compared to 2024.
2024 is considered a pivotal year for the AI PC market as manufacturers continuously introduce a series of new laptop models with integrated AI. However, one of the issues that still hinders users from accessing this product line is the selling price.
The reason why AI laptops are expensive
Referring to major retailers in Vietnam, most AI laptops have a minimum price range of 20-22 million VND. This is not a very high price, but not attractive enough to attract ordinary users or students.

Speaking to Dan Tri reporters at the Computex 2025 exhibition, Mr. Eric Lee, Southeast Asia Regional Director of computer manufacturer Asus, explained that the first wave of AI laptops is positioned in the high-end segment due to many factors.
"AI technology is still in the early stages of popularization. Companies have spent many years investing in research and using new materials such as Ceraluminum, so they often prioritize developing high-end AI laptop models," said Mr. Eric Lee.
Asus representatives added that most users who choose to buy AI laptops are currently those who need to use the device with high frequency such as experts, technology enthusiasts or students studying heavy subjects with a large amount of work to process.
"When choosing to buy a laptop, this group of users always prioritizes a product with a strong configuration with a new generation CPU and large storage capacity. Meanwhile, most of our AI laptops are equipped with such configurations from the beginning. Of course, a higher configuration also means a higher price.
With new improvements in CPU and NPU, AI laptops deliver performance comparable to high-performance laptops, but are superior thanks to their energy-saving capabilities and integrated AI to support work well.
Currently, AI laptops are in the same price segment as high-performance laptops. As AI hardware and software are increasingly optimized, we expect AI laptops to become more popular," said Mr. Eric Lee.
AI laptop prices are getting cheaper
In February, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X processor with the aim of bringing AI laptops to the mainstream price segment and reaching a wider range of customers.
This move also creates significant competitive pressure on rivals. Many leaks suggest that Intel and AMD will also soon join this race, from which users will benefit.
The CPU accounts for about 20-30% of the total cost of a laptop, said Eric Lee, Southeast Asia regional director at Asus. So as chipmakers introduce new processors at more affordable prices, the devices will become more accessible.

"Our strategy, both in the global market and in Vietnam, has always focused on building a diverse product portfolio, spanning many different price segments. Currently, we have a Copilot+ PC model, Vivobook 16, using Snapdragon X chip, being distributed in Vietnam at a price of 18-20 million VND.
Continuing this direction, we plan to launch Copilot+ PC models in many different segments, from entry-level models to the high-end Zenbook series. All segments are equipped with AI chips from Qualcomm, Intel and AMD, providing many choices for users," said an Asus representative.
The Vietnamese laptop market is considered to be entering a new, healthier and more sustainable growth phase. In November 2024, the AI laptop market share was only 0.4%, but now this number has increased to nearly 2%.
It is expected that the growth trend will continue and the market share of AI laptops using Windows in Vietnam may reach 3-5% by the end of 2025.
"The popularity of AI laptops is happening rapidly globally, and the Vietnamese market is no exception. In Australia, Copilot+ PC-certified laptop models currently account for 12-13% of total Windows laptop shipments per week. In Korea, this figure is up to 40-50%. The Vietnamese market still has a big gap.
However, with rising awareness and improved product segment diversity, we believe that Vietnam is on the right track to catch up with this growth momentum. In the next 1-2 years, we expect to see a clear shift led by AI, not only in the high-end segment but also gradually expanding to the mainstream user group," said Mr. Eric Lee.
