There are 15 potential railway traffic accident spots.

In recent times, relevant levels, sectors and units of the province have actively coordinated with the Thua Thien Hue Railway Exploitation Branch in compiling, reviewing and resolving black spots and potential railway traffic accident spots. Up to now, there are no black spots for railway traffic accidents in the area. However, along the railway line passing through the province, there are still 15 potential traffic accident spots.

According to records, most of the potential railway traffic accident spots are located in areas with self-opened paths across the railway; violated railway traffic safety corridors; limited visibility for vehicle drivers; level crossings that do not meet technical requirements... Currently, there are still 5 level crossings in the area that have not installed automatic warning systems and automatic barriers. Therefore, the risk of traffic accidents in this area is quite high.

It is known that the North-South railway line passing through Quang Tri is 75 km long, spanning 7 districts, towns and cities. Recently, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Provincial Police to coordinate with the Department of Transport, the Thua Thien Hue Railway Exploitation Branch and related localities to regularly conduct inspections, surveys, statistics, assessments and handle shortcomings related to the safety of railway traffic and level crossings.

However, some shortcomings and problems still arise and exist, increasing the risk of railway traffic accidents. In addition, the theft of materials, equipment, railway accessories and wagon equipment still occurs. From 2019 to now, 9 cases have been recorded and reported.

According to information from the Provincial People's Committee, from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2023, there were 4 train accidents and 18 other accidents related to railway traffic safety and order in the area, killing 10 people and injuring 6 others. Most recently, at noon on February 19, in Gio Linh district, there was a railway accident between a motorbike and a train, killing a woman on the spot.
