Over the past period, relevant departments and units of the province have actively coordinated with the Thua Thien Hue Railway Exploitation Branch in compiling statistics, reviewing, and resolving railway accident black spots and potential accident locations. To date, there are no railway accident black spots in the province. However, along the railway line passing through the province, there are still 15 potential accident locations.

According to observations, most potential railway accident hotspots are located in areas with unauthorized crossings over the railway; violations of railway safety corridors; limited visibility for drivers; and level crossings that do not meet technical requirements. Currently, there are still 5 level crossings in the area that have not been equipped with automatic warning systems and automatic barriers. Therefore, the risk of traffic accidents in this area is quite high.

It is known that the North-South railway line passing through Quang Tri province is 75 km long, spanning across 7 districts, towns, and cities. Recently, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Provincial Police to coordinate with the Department of Transport, the Thua Thien Hue Railway Exploitation Branch, and relevant localities to regularly inspect, survey, compile statistics, assess, and address shortcomings related to railway safety and level crossings.

However, some shortcomings and problems still arise and persist, increasing the risk of railway traffic accidents. In addition, theft of railway materials, equipment, accessories, and rolling stock still occurs. From 2019 to the present, nine incidents have been recorded and reported.

According to information from the Provincial People's Committee, from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2023, there were 4 train accidents and 18 other accidents related to railway traffic safety in the province, resulting in 10 deaths and 6 injuries. Most recently, on the afternoon of February 19, a railway accident occurred in Gio Linh district between a motorbike and a train, killing a woman instantly.
