Thirteen-year-old La Ngoc Trinh, the eldest of three younger siblings who recently lost their father, confided:
- I'm not angry that Mom abandoned us, but I feel sad.
- I want to stay in this house because I love my father, and I want to offer incense and food to him, even though I was a little scared at first. (Their father recently hanged himself in this house.)
- I want to learn a trade so I can work and earn money to support my siblings, but I don't want to leave them. They are so young and pitiful; the twins are 7 years old and my younger sister is 11 years old…
Hearing that much was enough to choke me up.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tien - author and coordinator of the "Aspiration for Life" program - visited and provided support to the unfortunate circumstances of the four sisters La Ngoc Trinh.
The tragedies and hardships of adulthood now fall upon the shoulders of children. Trinh looks strong for her age, but when the members of the "Aspiration for Life" program talked to her, they understood her inner turmoil, and it was truly heartbreaking for her.
The children's parents met while working as laborers in rented accommodations. They had children and struggled to make ends meet. The husband worked as a construction laborer, and the wife did odd jobs selling goods. They didn't even have a marriage certificate, so their children's education was a matter of uncertainty. In 2020-2021, the pandemic hit, making an already difficult life even harder. Family conflicts intensified. The children's mother constantly traveled back and forth between Binh Phuoc and Saigon. Then, I heard she found a new love, got married... and abandoned her children.
At that time, the twins Bao Khanh and Bao Khang were only 2 or 3 years old.
The children's father is the eldest son in the family, with three younger sisters, two of whom married and moved far away. Their father also passed away, and their mother wasn't close to the children. Therefore, faced with family tragedy, he had to manage everything on his own for the four of them. The prolonged grief left the children's father disoriented and discouraged…
Then one day in December 2025, he hanged himself. The four sisters became orphans.
La Ngoc Trinh, already disadvantaged because her parents didn't have proper paperwork, had to drop out of school after the 5th grade to stay home and take care of her younger siblings. Now, without a father, Trinh is devastated. Feeling sorry for her younger siblings, and knowing she's not yet old enough to be mature, she's spent the past few months learning nail art, hoping to find work and earn money to support them in the future.
Give my children and their siblings a path, a glimmer of hope for the future, even though right now everything seems so uncertain, distant, and full of pitfalls…
