According to the indictment, at approximately 6 PM on September 21, 2022, Tieu Dien and his father, Tran Van Luom, were drinking alcohol at home. Around 7 PM, Tieu Dien showed signs of intoxication, using vulgar language. Mr. Luom stopped drinking and went outside to lie down in a hammock.

When Mr. Luom went out, Tieu Dien became angry and started smashing furniture and property in the house. Mr. Luom and his wife left the house to avoid him. Seeing his parents leave, Tieu Dien called them, begging them to come home and threatening to burn down the house if they didn't.
After a while, when his parents didn't return, Xiao Tian used a lighter to burn the household items and then went outside to lie down. Neighbors saw that Mr. Luom's house was on fire and quickly informed him and his wife. When Mr. and Mrs. Luom returned, their house had been completely burned down.
