The image of soldiers wearing the green uniform of the great forest going to people's homes to examine, treat, and give medicine to sick people, repair houses collapsed due to storms, plant rice, harvest crops, etc. has left a beautiful impression on the people of Keng Du commune (Ky Son district). Keng Du Border Guard Station also adopted two ethnic minority children with especially difficult circumstances as "adopted children of the Border Guard Station" to help them have the conditions to go to school and stabilize their lives. This meaningful work has further strengthened the relationship between the army and people in the border area of Western Nghe An .
Major Vo Dinh Tao, Deputy Political Commissar of Keng Du Border Guard Station, said: “Lo Van Dieu and Xeo Van Diep thought they would have to drop out of school because their families were too poor. In 2019, when they entered 6th grade (Keng Du Commune Boarding Secondary School), the two children were accepted by Keng Du Border Guard Station as adopted children and continued to go to school. With the dedicated care and teachings of their foster fathers, the two children have matured a lot. In the recent transfer exam, both of them passed the entrance exam to Ky Son District High School. Every month, the unit continues to support the children's study expenses.”
Two other boys in Ky Son district also have very pitiful circumstances, Vi Duong Cam (12 years old), Thai ethnic group, residing in Tang Phan village, Na Ngoi commune and Mua Ba Sau (15 years old), Mong ethnic group, residing in Phu Kha 2 village, Na Ngoi commune, have become adopted children of Na Ngoi Border Guard Station. Mua Ba Sau's father died early, his mother remarried a man from neighboring Laos and settled here. Sau went to live with his grandparents, however, they were old and weak, the family's circumstances were extremely difficult, Sau had to suffer from hunger and poverty all year round. Vi Duong Cam's parents did not have stable jobs, and the family had many children, so they were always short of money. Sau and Cam both loved to study and wanted to go to school, but their family's circumstances did not allow it. Knowing the situation of the two children, officers and soldiers of Na Ngoi Border Guard Station, along with teachers and officers from the commune and village, went to their homes to learn about them, ask about their wishes and announce the policy of adopting children. The family and the two children were very happy and moved. This new school year, officers of Na Ngoi Border Guard Station bought new clothes and school supplies for the two children. Mua Ba Sau confided: “Before coming to live with the Border Guard fathers, I was very quiet and my academic performance was also poor. With the care and dedicated teaching of the fathers, we have become more confident, happy, sociable and our academic results have also improved day by day.”
The "Adopted Children of Border Guard Stations" model has been officially implemented since August 2019. Border Guard stations in Nghe An province have welcomed children aged 6-15 (can be younger, but must ensure care), children of ethnic minorities, those in difficult circumstances, those without shelter, orphans, families of war invalids, martyrs, and policy beneficiaries, helping them have suitable food, accommodation, and activities. In addition to the Border Guard stations directly adopting children, the heads of the Command, departments, offices, and units that do not directly adopt children also registered to support the budget of 200,000 VND/child/month... Accordingly, each head of the Command will sponsor at least 1 child; the departments and offices of the Command will sponsor at least 2 children. This activity will be maintained until the children finish school.
According to statistics, there are currently 114 students with especially difficult circumstances in the border areas that the Nghe An Provincial Border Guard has sponsored, helped, and raised under the program "Bringing Children to School" and "Border Guard Adopted Children". Notably, among these, 16 are Laotian children in border villages who are regularly supported with funds, books, clothes, etc.
Secretary of the Ky Son District Party Committee Vi Hoe said: “Over the past years, with the regular support and assistance of officers and soldiers of Nghe An Border Guard, students from especially difficult family circumstances in the border area have strived to overcome difficulties and material and spiritual deprivation to become good children and good students. Many students have risen from average students to good and excellent students. Not only that, units of Nghe An Border Guard have also promptly helped schools in the area to consolidate facilities and environmental landscapes to welcome students to the new school year. The sharing of the green-shirt soldiers and the whole society has truly been an opportunity for students to rise up in life, strive to study well, nurture dreams and ambitions to contribute to building a more prosperous and beautiful village in the future.
