Zidane's son chose Algeria instead of following the French national team like his famous father.

Luca's decision was approved by FIFA on September 19, when the world's most powerful football body recognized Luca Zidane's change of Confederation, opening up the opportunity for him to participate in upcoming international tournaments.

Luca has represented France at youth level from U16 to U20. But at the age of 27, he has decided to choose Algeria. The Granada goalkeeper could be called up for the national team in October, taking part in two 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Somalia (October 6) and Uganda (October 13).

Algeria currently leads Group G of the African World Cup qualifiers with a 4-point lead over Uganda. If they win the next match, they will officially qualify for the biggest World Cup on the planet in the summer of 2026.

Luca is likely to become Algeria's number one goalkeeper. During the qualifying round, coach Vladimir Petkovic alternated between Anthony Mandrea (playing in the French third division) and Alexis Guendouz (playing in the domestic league). Compared to these two names, Luca's experience and class can help him take the official position.

Luca began his career at Real Madrid's youth academy and made two appearances for the first team. However, he failed to establish himself as a starter and played for Racing Santander, Rayo Vallecano and Eibar before joining Granada in the Spanish second division.
