A commune donated tens of billions of dong to build roads.
For nearly a year now, the road through the center of Nam Dong commune ( Lam Dong ) has always been bright with flags and flowers. The road has just been upgraded and expanded, with a fixed median strip, spacious sidewalks, trees and a lighting system that meets urban standards.
Before being upgraded, this road was still called by the locals as “the road of suffering”. The road surface was degraded, with many potholes. It was slippery in the rainy season and dusty in the dry season, making travel and business on both sides of the road difficult.
The project to renovate and upgrade a road section of more than 4km through the center of Nam Dong commune has a total capital of 100 billion VND. The entire investment capital is only for construction and installation, there is no fund for site clearance. In order for the project to be implemented, the government has mobilized people to donate land and relocate the project.

Responding to the policy, hundreds of households voluntarily moved back fences, gates, and property on their land to make way for the land. Many party members and the elderly took the lead, creating a ripple effect in the community.
Mr. Pham Van Tich's family (82 years old) owns more than 25m of street frontage. After understanding the policy, he and his children proactively demolished all outbuildings and moved the house back 5-6m to make way for the land.
My family donated land, our neighbors also donated land, and the whole commune agreed to create the wide and beautiful road we have today. We are proud to have contributed to building our homeland.
Mr. Pham Van Tich, Nam Dong commune, Lam Dong province
Standing on the new road, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoan, former Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Dong commune in the first term (1989), emotionally recalled the early years of the commune's establishment: "Back then, going down to the villages, I had to roll up my pants to my knees. In the dry season, it was dusty, in the rainy season it was muddy, and I couldn't even ride a bicycle. Looking at the roads now, I feel like my hometown has really changed."

In the memories of the previous generation, Nam Dong was a newly established land in 1989, lacking in all aspects. Now the commune has met the new rural standards (in 2017) and basically completed the advanced new rural standards (in 2024). Traffic infrastructure plays an important role, the result of decades of people persistently donating land and contributing their efforts.

According to Chairman of Nam Dong Commune People’s Committee Bui Cong Cuong, building new rural areas in the locality has encountered many difficulties, especially in terms of infrastructure. However, thanks to the consensus of the people, the commune has created a “miracle”.
The 2022 - 2024 period is the peak period, many large traffic projects are being implemented. Nam Dong people have donated land and assets to build about 19.5 km of road on 12 routes, with a total donated area of nearly 15.5 hectares.
In the past 10 years alone, people have donated land and assets worth more than 50 billion VND, of which land accounts for 35 billion VND and assets on land about 15 billion VND.

The movement spread widely
Not only Nam Dong, the spirit of donating land for road construction has spread strongly in many Northwestern localities of Lam Dong province, becoming a widespread movement.
In Cu Jut commune, the land donation movement has made many impressions. Typically, Nguyen Van Linh street in the commune center was widened from 16m to 22m. People not only donated land and assets worth over 10 billion VND but also contributed money with the government to repave the entire sidewalk.
In addition to Nguyen Van Linh Street, a series of other streets such as Kim Dong, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Hai Ba Trung… with a total length of over 10km were also expanded, without any land clearance costs. People voluntarily removed fences and moved structures to make way for land.

Not only in the central area, the movement has also spread to the suburbs. In the old Tam Thang commune, in just the last 5 years, people have donated more than 7.4 hectares of land, worth 12.8 billion VND, to implement 9 traffic projects.
Thanks to people's proactive land donation, previously narrow rural roads have been upgraded and expanded, better serving people's travel and production needs.
According to Chairman of the People's Committee of Cu Jut Commune, Ngo Quoc Phong, the Commune Party Committee always determined that in order to develop the socio-economy, transportation must first be one step ahead. After arranging the local administrative unit at 2 levels, Cu Jut continued to build its own resolution, in which the goal of developing transportation infrastructure was put first and paid special attention to mobilizing people to donate land.

Mr. Ngo Quoc Phong assessed: Many road expansion projects are only funded for construction, not for site clearance. Without the consensus of the people, it is very difficult to implement. Thanks to the people's strength, many projects have become reality, contributing to changing the face of the locality.
It is noteworthy that the mobilization of people to donate land in Northwest Lam Dong was carried out early, right from the planning stage, without waiting for the project.
The government patiently explained to the people so that they could understand and proactively relocate their assets and not build new ones within the planned road opening area. Thanks to that, when the project had capital and the site was ready, the implementation was quick, saving a lot of time and money.
Mr. Ngo Quoc Phong, Chairman of People's Committee of Cu Jut commune

The movement of donating land for road construction not only has economic significance but also connects the community, raising the sense of responsibility of each citizen for the common development. From the donated land meters, wide roads have been formed, creating favorable conditions for trade, attracting investment, improving people's lives.
