Recently, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Thuan An Primary - Secondary Boarding School. The groundbreaking ceremony of the school has a profound humanitarian meaning, demonstrating the special attention of the Party, State and Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee and Government to education in remote, isolated and border areas.
Eagerly waiting for the first inter-level boarding school of the commune
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in a bustling atmosphere, full of excitement of the local people. Amidst the sound of drums and cheers, the smiles of the border residents like Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tinh, 65 years old, shone with happiness. She attended the ceremony very early, emotionally sharing: “For many years, our children have been studying far away, in the rainy season it is muddy, in the dry season it is dusty. Now there is a new school, close to home, we are very happy, parents are also more secure when their children get a good education”.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, a teacher at Tran Phu Primary School, could not hide her joy: “Thuan An is a remote commune with difficult roads, making it very difficult for both teachers and students to get to school during the rainy season. This inter-level boarding school will be a new home, helping students and teachers feel secure in teaching and learning better,” Ms. Huong said.
For the local people, especially ethnic minorities, this is a project of great spiritual value. Mr. Nie Ran (63 years old, M'nong), Head of Bu Dak village shared: "We are grateful to the Party and the State for their attention to children in the border areas. This school not only helps children have the conditions to study, but also reminds the younger generation to appreciate and preserve what their ancestors and the country have built."
As for H'Mi Zon, a 5th grade student at Nguyen Viet Xuan Primary School, the joy is simpler: "I'm very happy because there will soon be a new school near my home. I don't have to go to school far away anymore."
Hope from the new school
Thuan An border commune has a particularly important position in ensuring security, economic development and preserving national sovereignty . The commune has a border of more than 60.125 km adjacent to the Kingdom of Cambodia through Dak Puer border gate.
Regarding education, Thuan An commune currently has 7 schools with 4,718 students, an increase of 454 students compared to 2020. By 2025, the commune will have 6/7 schools meeting national standards level 1.
Although the school system has been upgraded, many schools still lack functional rooms, libraries, multi-purpose halls and modern teaching equipment; some schools are degraded and do not meet the requirements of renewing the general education program. Facilities and equipment for teaching and learning are not uniform.

According to Mr. Ha Sy Son, Director of Project Management Board 3, the unit assigned to implement, the Inter-level Boarding School Project in the border commune of Thuan An has a total investment of more than 225 billion VND with 30 classrooms to accommodate 1,050 students. The total construction area is nearly 5 hectares including the administrative block, library, study block, multi-purpose house, kitchen, dining room, teacher dormitory...
The school is designed in an open, flexible, diverse direction, suitable to the culture of the ethnic groups in the area, the natural terrain and climate conditions of the area, prioritizing trees and preserving the natural landscape, ensuring synchronization, full modern functions, sustainability and safety.
“Immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony, the Board will direct construction, consulting and supervision units to closely follow the progress, strive to complete and put the school into use before August 30, 2026, in time to serve the new school year,” said Mr. Son.
Mr. Le Van Hoang, Secretary of the Thuan An Commune Party Committee, emphasized that the inter-level school project was not simply built with bricks and concrete, but was also created from the deep love of the Party, the State, all levels, sectors and above all, from the steadfast trust of all local people.
According to Mr. Hoang, when the project is completed, the sound of the school drum will spread throughout the border area. It is not only the sound of the hour but also the resounding call of knowledge, faith and aspiration for a new life. Each smile of the children will be the clearest proof of the vitality of Thuan An - a border area that is not only steadfast in security but also rich in intelligence and imbued with humanity.
"Every meter of wall, every brick will embody and tell the story of a strong desire to study, of the spirit of solidarity in overcoming difficulties, and of a bright belief in a common future," said Mr. Hoang.
Lam Dong province has 5 land border communes: Tuy Duc, Quang Truc, Thuan Hanh, Thuan An and Dak Wil. These 5 communes currently have 47 educational facilities with 39 public schools and 5 non-public schools. Of which, there is only one ethnic boarding school.
In addition to the two projects in Quang Truc and Thuan An that have been started, Lam Dong province will continue to build the remaining boarding schools in border communes in the 2025-2027 period, aiming to complete the border education network, meet the requirements of socio-economic development and ensure national border security.
