Da Nang students create AI solutions for smart education

DNO - With a youthful mindset and innovative spirit, university students in Da Nang are turning artificial intelligence (AI) into a tool to serve education and spread Vietnamese knowledge.

Dai Viet GPT and EduMate are two typical projects of Da Nang students in creating and applying technology, opening up new approaches to teaching and learning in the digital age.

“Dialogue with history” using AI

Stemming from the concern of "how to make history more familiar, vivid and attractive?", a group of students from the University of Technology (University of Danang) developed the Dai Viet GPT project - an AI platform that allows users to chat with Vietnamese historical figures through voice and vivid 3D images.

Student Pham Quang Nhut, Head of the Dai Viet GPT project team, said the idea was born from the reality that the current way of teaching History in schools is mostly reading and copying, which is dry and unattractive to students.

The project team aims to apply technology to create a new learning method, allowing students to directly "dialogue" with historical figures. For example, students can chat with National Hero Tran Hung Dao to hear about the victory over the Yuan-Mongol army on the Bach Dang River in 1288, or listen to King Quang Trung recall the great victory of the spring of Ky Dau 1789.

Through that, historical stories become vivid, helping students feel the national spirit more deeply and closely.

According to Quang Nhut, Dai Viet GPT is built on a platform combining 4 key technologies, including: knowledge graph to ensure data accuracy; RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) to help retrieve information based on evidence; LLM (large language model) to create natural conversations.

In particular, the AI talking head technology helps to recreate the character's face and voice as real as possible. Thanks to that, users can chat with historical figures via text, voice or watch the character "talk" through simulated video .

Student Phan Van Tai, a member of the group, shared that the project is a technological product connecting modern citizens with national heritage. Historical values will be incorporated into the software, helping young people to "touch", listen and dialogue.

In the future, the team hopes to bring Dai Viet GPT into classrooms and museums. In schools, teachers can use the app to illustrate lessons, making it easier for students to understand and more interesting. In museums, visitors can interact with “virtual historical figures” via touch kiosks for a more enjoyable visiting experience.

We hope to have enough capacity and resources to expand the Dai Viet GPT database with more historical figures. From there, we will contribute to arousing national pride in the young generation, bringing Vietnamese history into the digital space in a vivid and humane way.

Virtual assistant for teachers

Unlike Dai Viet GPT, the EduMate smart education project was researched and created by a group of students from the Vietnam - Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (University of Danang) to help teachers reduce workload and improve teaching efficiency.

Student Nguyen Duc Trien, Head of the EduMate project, said the idea was formed from observations during the learning and teaching process. Many teachers really want to apply AI in teaching but face difficulties in language, usage skills and information reliability.

From that reality, the team built EduMate - Virtual educational assistant for Vietnamese teachers, operated by Agentic AI technology with Multi-Agent architecture, many "AI agents" working together.

For example, 1 agent analyzes the teacher's request, 1 agent searches for content in the Vietnamese education database, 1 agent reviews the output to ensure the content is accurate...

Thanks to this mechanism, EduMate acts as a virtual teaching assistant team, helping teachers complete lessons quickly, saving time and still ensuring quality.

The highlight of the system is its simplicity and friendliness, teachers only need to enter requests in Vietnamese without complex command skills, but still receive accurate results.

According to student Nguyen Anh Kim Ngan, a member of the project, unlike international AI tools that use global data, EduMate is trained entirely on Vietnamese educational data, including textbooks, sample lesson plans and domestic teaching materials. That helps the system create content that is appropriate in terms of context, language and pedagogical standards.

The team is currently continuing to improve the product, focusing on completing the system for teachers (learning materials database, classroom management features, assignment and assessment). At the same time, researching and building a personalized learning platform to help students self-study, review and develop their abilities.

We hope to create a teaching support tool, contributing a small part to building an intelligent, humane and practical educational ecosystem in Da Nang in particular and Vietnam in general. Thereby, creating conditions for teachers and students to be supported by AI to improve teaching and learning efficiency.
