Ton Klong village is a remote area of Da Teh 2 commune ( Lam Dong ), the population is mainly ethnic minorities. The whole village currently has 186 households with 756 people. Of which, the Youth Union alone has 24 members who are regularly active. The people's lives are still difficult, and their awareness of environmental protection was previously limited.

Based on that reality, the village Youth Union proactively established a model of collecting household waste with Mr. K' Hien, Secretary of the Youth Union and Head of the Garbage Collection Club as team leader, and 18 enthusiastic youth union members participating.
Without specialized vehicles or financial support, but with the spirit of volunteering and the desire to "make their village cleaner and more beautiful", the members of the union in Ton Klong village have voluntarily contributed their time and efforts to maintain regular activities.

Mr. K' Hien, Secretary of the Youth Union and Head of the Ton Klong Village Garbage Collection Club, said that regularly, on the last Tuesday afternoon of the month, the whole team gathers, divides into each route and each group of households to collect garbage.
The members will guide people on how to classify inorganic and organic waste, bag it and bring it to the collection point. Then, the members will use carts or motorbikes to transport the waste to the commune center so that the environmental company can come and collect it for processing.
Mr. K'Hien added that when they first started, many households were not familiar with sorting garbage. Some people asked why they collected it, because garbage was always burned or thrown behind the house. But gradually, when they saw that the village roads were cleaner and the environment was fresher, people understood and joined in.

After only 8 campaigns, the team collected nearly 8 tons of household waste, helping to keep the village roads and alleys clean, eliminating littering. The valuable thing is that people now have the habit of throwing garbage in the right place, and children also know how to pick up trash around their yards and schools.
Not only stopping at cleaning, the garbage collection team of Ton Klong Youth Union is also an active nucleus in local movements. Union members enthusiastically participate in Youth Month, volleyball tournament, humanitarian blood donation, taking care of Mid-Autumn Festival for children, building flower roads and youth nurseries. Since then, the Union movement in this remote village has increasingly spread, attracting a large number of union members and young people to participate.
I always tell my colleagues that each garbage collection is not only about cleaning the environment, but also about bonding. When working together and contributing to the village, everyone feels happy and proud. The greatest thing is the spirit of solidarity and sense of responsibility to the community.
Mr. K' Hien, Secretary of the Youth Union and Head of the Ton Klong Village Garbage Collection Club

Mr. Phung Minh Duc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Teh 2 Commune, said that in reality, the awareness of environmental protection among ethnic minority people has changed significantly. While in the past, garbage was often burned or thrown away haphazardly, now many households have proactively cleaned up around their houses, dredged ditches, and planted trees.
The roads that were once covered with weeds are now brightly colored with flowers planted and cared for by the union members themselves, becoming a highlight in the movement to build advanced new rural areas.
From the practical effectiveness of the model, the People's Committee of Da Teh 2 commune recognized this as a bright spot in environmental protection work at the grassroots level. The People's Committee of Da Teh 2 commune is also planning to replicate the model to other villages, aiming at the goal of "Each village has a youth garbage collection team", contributing to raising community awareness and protecting the green - clean - beautiful landscape throughout the area.

Along with maintaining environmental sanitation activities, the Youth Union of Ton Klong village also actively promotes studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh , associated with activities of studying the Youth Union's resolutions, thematic activities, reading books about Uncle Ho. Each member realizes that loving the homeland is not only through words, but also through concrete, practical actions every day.
Looking back after more than a year of operation, the household waste collection model of the Ton Klong village Youth Union not only helps the village become cleaner, but also contributes to forming a civilized lifestyle and preserving the rural landscape.
This is a vivid demonstration of the pioneering and creative spirit of young people in remote areas, people who know how to start from the simplest things to spread the message of green living, beautiful living and useful living.
