On the night of May 24th, a fierce storm with heavy rain unexpectedly swept through Cat Tien 3 commune, causing damage to many houses, uprooting trees, and severely damaging dozens of hectares of crops. According to initial statistics, the tornado, which lasted more than two hours, damaged eight houses and many outbuildings; knocked down streetlights and utility poles; flooded dozens of hectares of newly sown rice paddies; and damaged over 35 hectares of durian trees due to uprooting and breakage. Many inter-village roads were blocked by fallen trees, causing traffic congestion.
The most severe damage was to the durian orchards that were preparing for harvest. Thousands of durians fell to the ground, and many trees were broken or completely uprooted. For the local people, it's not just the harvest season, but also the main source of income for the whole family after months of hard work.
As soon as the storm hit, the Cat Tien 3 Commune Police mobilized all officers and soldiers, in coordination with the militia and local security forces, to quickly go to the scene to assist people and regulate traffic. In the dark night, amidst heavy rain, the forces urgently helped people move their belongings, clear fallen trees, and warn of dangerous areas due to broken power lines and the risk of landslides.
In addition to assisting people in overcoming the immediate consequences of the disaster, the police force also plays a core role in maintaining security and order in the locality after the natural disaster. Many mobile patrol teams were deployed throughout the night in heavily damaged areas to protect people's property, prevent theft of agricultural products, or exploitation of the disaster for personal gain.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Trung Kien, Head of the Cat Tien 3 Commune Police, said: “From 9 PM on May 24th, when the tornado was sweeping through, all police officers and soldiers immediately put aside their personal work and mobilized 100% of their personnel to coordinate with other forces and spread out to vulnerable areas. The highest priority was ensuring the safety of people's lives.”
According to Lieutenant Colonel Kien, in a situation where houses have had their roofs blown off and gardens destroyed, people are very anxious. This is also a time when security and order are easily disrupted, so the commune police maintain 24/7 patrols in heavily affected areas. "We consider the people's property as our own, and we are determined to prevent any theft or profiteering from the natural disaster," Lieutenant Colonel Kien emphasized.
From the morning of May 25th until now, the commune's police force has continued to coordinate with the local government and residents to clear fallen trees, unblock blocked roads, and assist households in making temporary repairs to their homes so they can quickly stabilize their lives. At the school where the roof collapsed and the electrical system was damaged, the police force also coordinated with the power company to help fix the problem and ensure safety before students return to school.
Natural disasters left behind much damage, but amidst the rain, wind, and the aftermath of the storm, the timely presence of the police force helped people feel more secure in overcoming difficulties. From helping people move their belongings and maintaining security and order to assisting in post-storm recovery efforts, the police force of Cat Tien 3 commune contributed to helping people quickly stabilize their lives and restore production.
