On the afternoon of September 24th, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai presided over the ceremony to announce the "Ho Chi Minh City Friendship Symbol". Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang and mayors and deputy mayors from international localities.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan shared that this is an extremely meaningful event, marking the strong cooperative relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and international localities and partners. The international friendship symbol is not only an artistic work, but also a vibrant symbol of the spirit of friendship, solidarity, and long-term cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and 58 localities worldwide . The idea behind the symbol stems from the desire for international friends to feel close, appreciated, and proud when they set foot in the city.

The prominent feature at the top of the symbol is the Mobius Circle – a symbol of infinity, representing continuous, sustainable, and unending development. It serves as a gateway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the world and vice versa. Using advanced 3D mapping technology and a water screen, the Mobius Circle is not only a symbol of connection but also a medium for showcasing cultural and artistic images, introducing the beauty and hospitality of Ho Chi Minh City to international friends.

Located in Bach Dang Wharf Park – a peaceful space in the heart of the city – the symbol will be a vivid testament to Ho Chi Minh City's vision in elevating its foreign relations, while sending a message to international friends about welcome, openness, and the aspiration to reach out to the world, working together to build a peaceful and prosperous future.

After the ceremony, delegates took a walk to admire the city and enjoy Vietnamese egg coffee. The unveiling of the friendship symbol was one of many activities included in the 2nd Ho Chi Minh City Friendship Dialogue - 2024 program.
