On the morning of January 6th, Comrade Pham Minh Chinh, Member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister of the Government, attended the conference summarizing the work of Vietnam's diplomatic sector in 2024 and outlining key directions and tasks for 2025.
Comrade Lai Van Hoan, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and other delegates attended the conference at the Thai Binh branch.
The conference was held in a hybrid format, combining in-person and online participation, connecting with 63 provinces and centrally-administered cities, as well as Vietnamese representative offices abroad. Comrade Lai Van Hoan, Provincial Party Committee member and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, attended from the Thai Binh branch.
In 2024, amidst a turbulent global landscape, foreign affairs contributed to the impressive success of Vietnam's foreign relations, enhancing its potential, position, and international prestige. Key national leaders conducted 60 diplomatic activities, welcomed 25 delegations of foreign leaders, and signed over 170 cooperation agreements. To date, Vietnam has diplomatic relations with 194 countries worldwide, deepening cooperation with these nations, making it more effective, stable, and long-term. Also last year, through economic diplomacy, Vietnam's import and export turnover reached a new record high, exceeding US$800 billion. At the conference, delegates highly appreciated the achievements of Vietnam's diplomatic sector in 2024, discussed key tasks for 2025, especially the role of the diplomatic sector in leading the country into a new era, an era of national progress.
Speaking at the conference, Comrade Pham Minh Chinh, Member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, acknowledged, highly appreciated, and warmly commended the achievements of the diplomatic sector, which have made significant contributions to the overall achievements of the country in 2024. He expressed his hope that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would closely monitor the situation, proactively propose timely, flexible, and effective countermeasures; and more effectively utilize the content of agreements, commitments, and cooperation memoranda with countries around the world, transforming them into resources to serve socio-economic development.
Regarding the tasks for 2025, the Prime Minister requested that the diplomatic sector, ministries, sectors, and localities proactively grasp and accurately predict the situation, identify opportunities and favorable conditions to maintain a proactive and flexible stance in foreign affairs. They should boldly and confidently expand diplomatic relations and foreign affairs activities; apply diplomatic guidelines and policies towards diversification and multilateralism, linked to national independence, firmly protecting sovereignty, while maintaining a peaceful and stable environment and integrating and developing deeply; and effectively handle emerging situations. They should build a team of diplomatic officials who are both politically sound and professionally competent, intelligent, decisive, and capable of excellently fulfilling their assigned tasks; and consolidate and strengthen the material infrastructure of the diplomatic sector. They should strengthen and consolidate the position of Party and State diplomacy, people-to-people diplomacy, and economic diplomacy to create momentum and strength to promote the country's development in the era of national progress.
