After many days of anticipation, at 8:00 a.m. on July 17, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the 2024 high school graduation exam scores. This year, the whole country has a total of 1,071,393 candidates registered to take the 2024 high school graduation exam. The exam takes place on June 27-29 with 3 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature, Foreign Language and a combination of subjects to choose from Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Social Sciences (Geography, History, Civic Education).

2024 is the last year of teaching and testing according to the 2006 General Education Program. Therefore, the 2024 high school graduation exam basically maintains the same structure as the 2023 high school graduation exam.

Specifically, in terms of structure, format and differentiation, the basic exam remains stable with 4 cognitive levels of recognition, understanding, application and high application; consistent with the goals of the High School Graduation Exam. In terms of question format, the Literature subject is tested in essay form, the exam is designed to encourage students to promote creativity, limiting sample essays.

Regarding the content, the exam ensures scientific and accurate knowledge and skills standards of the 2006 General Education Program; with higher differentiation, especially questions at the application and high application levels. In addition, the exam questions have questions that aim to solve real life and social problems, which are built in a way that is close to the orientation of assessing learners' abilities, helping to assess candidates' abilities fairly and accurately.

Sharing with Dan Viet Newspaper reporter, Master of Linguistics Nguyen Mong Tuyen, Literature teacher at Trung Phu High School, Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City, commented: "This year's exam is assessed to closely follow the program, suitable for students, showing a balance between inheritance and innovation, both closely following the familiar structure and bringing new points in the content, contributing to the comprehensive assessment of students' abilities.

For me, this is a beautiful ending to the journey of the old Literature program, of the old way of making questions. At the level of a graduation exam, the questions are quite good and suitable for students. The score range will be around 6-7 points, which will be the majority."

Mr. Tran Manh Tung, a Math teacher in Hanoi, predicts that this year, the average score in Math will be 6 points, the median will be 6.3 points. The score that most candidates achieve is 7.4 points.

Mr. Le Dinh Hien, History teacher at Dong Bac Ga Inter-level School, Thanh Hoa, commented: "In this year's exam, in addition to thorough preparation of knowledge, students need to be able to solve the questions quickly and accurately, maintain a stable mentality and health. It is predicted that in the 2024 high school graduation exam, students will easily achieve a score of over 7 points, good students will do well up to question 35 to achieve a score of 9 or 10."

Mr. Nguyen Minh Dat, a Literature teacher at a high school in Ho Chi Minh City, commented: "This year's Literature exam was easier than last year's and the scores were highly differentiated according to the subject's characteristics. The number of candidates with weak or poor scores (below average) was very small. The number of candidates with the highest score was 7 points.

Notably, there are not many candidates who get good scores, above 8.0. The number of students who get 9 points or more is also very small."

According to Mr. Nguyen Duy Khanh, who used to teach Biology at Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted, Phu Tho, and is currently a teacher in Hanoi: "It is predicted that the Biology score range this year from 8.5 and above will decrease compared to last year. The number of 9+ and absolute 10 points will decrease a lot, while the score of 6-7 and below will remain the same."
