During this period of negative impact on production and business activities, trade unions at all levels in Ha Tinh have effectively played their role in gathering and mobilizing union members and workers, practically supporting businesses in overcoming difficulties.

Thong Thuan Aquatic Products Joint Stock Company (Nghi Xuan district) operates in the field of producing and supplying shrimp larvae to the nationwide market. Typically, from November of this year to January of next year, the company's workers have to take a "winter break," with no work due to the harsh climate conditions in Ha Tinh during this season, which harm the shrimp and result in shrimp quality not meeting customer requirements.
From the "Excellent Worker - Creative Worker" emulation movement launched by the trade union, many initiatives have emerged and been applied to maintain winter production and business activities at Thong Thuan Aquatic Products Joint Stock Company.
During the winter break, the company's production and business activities were interrupted; workers only received 50% of their salary. To overcome this difficulty, the company's trade union committee launched and encouraged employees to participate in the "Excellent Worker - Creative Worker" and "Promoting Technical Innovation" movements to apply to production.
In response to the movement, many initiatives to improve the living environment and mitigate the impact of weather and diseases on the growth of shrimp larvae have emerged, contributing to increased yield and quality of shrimp in the winter season. As a result, the company is still maintaining production and supplying goods to its traditional partners at this time.
Workers have regular jobs and stable incomes during difficult times.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Dat, a worker at the company, shared: “Having work during the winter season is something that workers always hope for. With the active involvement of the trade union and the efforts of the workers, this year we have regular work and stable income; our salaries and bonuses are guaranteed, so everyone is happy and more secure.”
The garment industry is one of the sectors most severely affected by the current global situation. During this challenging time, the Trade Union Executive Committee of Appareltech Export Garment Co., Ltd. (Duc Tho Industrial Cluster) is working diligently with company leadership to secure orders and ensure employment for nearly 1,600 workers.
Furthermore, the trade union has played a very effective role in uniting and bringing together workers to share the burden with the company during difficult times through concrete actions such as: encouraging workers to agree to take their annual leave at the same time to facilitate work arrangements for the company; and participating in the "Productivity - Quality - Efficiency" emulation movement...
Nearly 1,600 workers at Appareltech Export Garment Co., Ltd. have been guaranteed jobs and income during the garment industry crisis.
Mr. Kwon Soon Cheol, General Director of Appareltech Export Garment Co., Ltd., said: “The labor union has always stood by the company during difficult times, doing a good job of stabilizing the morale of the workers and encouraging their work spirit. With the support and sharing of the labor union and the workers, we are confident that we will soon overcome this crisis.”
In the Vung Ang Economic Zone, many businesses in the seafood, garment, and wood processing sectors are also facing difficulties. Nguyen Duc Thach, Chairman of the Provincial Economic Zones Trade Union, stated: “Rising raw material prices, declining orders, and many companies having to cut jobs… In light of this situation, the trade union has surveyed the situation, shared the difficulties with businesses, and connected with companies needing to recruit to find new jobs for those who have lost their jobs.”
Besides supporting businesses during difficult times, trade unions at all levels are also implementing many activities to care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers.
The Trade Union of the Provincial Economic Zones participates in resolving issues arising in labor relations at the workplace.
Severely impacted by the global situation, in late October 2023, Five Star Garment Joint Stock Company (Huong Son) had to temporarily suspend operations, resulting in over 300 workers losing their jobs. Ms. Cu Thi Bich Thuan, Chairwoman of the Huong Son District Labor Union, stated: “Besides supporting the company's leadership, the District Labor Union has actively coordinated with relevant departments and agencies to monitor and supervise the implementation of policies and regulations for workers. To date, 100% of the workers who were owed wages have received full payment from the company.”
In accordance with the policy of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) to support union members and workers whose working hours have been reduced or whose labor contracts have been terminated due to businesses cutting orders, trade unions at all levels have directly surveyed and assessed the labor and employment situation in businesses to provide a basis for proposals to higher levels. To date, the Provincial Confederation of Labor is receiving and completing dossiers for review and proposing to the VGCL for support as prescribed.
The Policy and Legal Affairs Department of the Provincial Labor Union directly monitors the labor and employment situation and guides businesses and workers on the procedures for submitting applications for support from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
According to Nguyen Van Trong, Vice Chairman of the Ha Tinh Provincial Labor Union: “Besides fulfilling its function and nhiệm vụ of caring for union members and workers, the ‘Accompanying Businesses’ program is always considered one of the key tasks of the Ha Tinh Labor Union. With the Lunar New Year approaching, labor unions at all levels will strive to actively implement many activities to further share with businesses and workers.”
The active involvement of trade unions has contributed to affirming their role as a partner and bridge between businesses and workers; helping workers feel secure and willing to share the burden with businesses to overcome difficult times like the present.
