On the morning of May 24th, the Hai Phong Trade Union suffered a 0-4 defeat against the Vietnam Banking Trade Union in the semi-finals of the Northern qualifying round of the 2026 Vietnam Workers and Employees Football Tournament.

The team from the port city finished third overall in the Northern qualifying round, along with the PetroVietnam Trade Union team.

Notably, the Hai Phong Trade Union also excelled in winning the title of the most fair-play team. The team was the only team in the Northern qualifying round that did not receive any penalties.

This is an extremely impressive transformation for the Hai Phong Trade Union team, from a team famous for its fiery, aggressive, and combative playing style in previous seasons.

This achievement stems from the fact that the port city's representatives consistently upheld their motto: maintaining unity and fair play. This discipline did not come from punitive pressure, but from the voluntary commitment and high level of consensus from the leadership, coaching staff, and every member on the field.

The fair-play award in the qualifying round is a great motivation for the Hai Phong Trade Union to aim for the national finals, scheduled to take place at the end of July in Ho Chi Minh City, with the highest determination.

In 2026, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor , Tuoi Tre newspaper, and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will continue to cooperate in organizing the Vietnam Workers and Public Employees Football Tournament.

Now in its fourth season, the tournament brings together 48 teams from all over the country, continuing to affirm its position as a prestigious annual competition for workers, civil servants, and laborers nationwide. This contributes to promoting physical fitness and sports , and enhancing the cultural and spiritual lives of workers in particular and society as a whole.

The total prize money for the tournament amounts to 900 million VND, with the national champion receiving 200 million VND.

Notably, this is the fourth consecutive season that the Vietnam Workers and Employees Football Tournament has been honored to receive the support of its diamond sponsor - Truong Hai Group (THACO). The commitment of THACO, along with its partners such as Dong Luc Sports Group, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam, Vietnam Cable Television Corporation (VTVcab), FPT Television Company Limited (FPT Play), and many other businesses, has contributed to strongly spreading the humanitarian values, solidarity spirit, and community significance of the tournament.

The press conference announcing the tournament took place on May 20, 2026. The Northern regional qualifiers were held from May 21 to 24 in Hanoi. The Southern regional qualifiers took place from June 6 to 9 in Ho Chi Minh City. The season will conclude with the national finals, tentatively scheduled to be held in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of July 2026.
