The disciplinary decision clearly states: " A fine of 10 million VND is imposed on Coach Van Sy Son, head coach of Quang Nam Club, for his statements at the press conference after the match between Quang Nam Club and LPBank Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club on April 4th, which seriously affected the image and reputation of the National Professional Football League Organizing Committee and Vietnamese football ."
Coach Van Sy Son was fined for attacking the referee.
The refereeing team for the match at Hoa Xuan Stadium consisted of head referee Nguyen Ngoc Chau, two assistant referees Tran Duy Khanh and Hoang Duy Tuat, and fourth official Nguyen Dinh Thai.
The refereeing team made controversial decisions, drawing immediate protests from the home team, Quang Nam, right from the start of the match.
At the end of the match, coach Van Sy Son expressed his frustration: " Right now, two of our players are injured and may not recover for a month. The referee saw a foul but didn't blow the whistle. We made a slight touch and he blew it, but you can see how the other side played, the cameras captured everything. A young team like ours shouldn't have to play against an opponent with only 12-13 players (the opponent benefited from the referee's decision - PV). I condemn this."
I know there are unwritten rules in football, and we just have to accept them. I tell the players to stay calm and confident. The referees are on the field, and the fans and the press are watching. You can judge whether the referees have done their job, and how to make football better ."
Mr. Son's statement was deemed to go beyond the scope of the match, negatively impacting the overall image of the V.League. The VFF's disciplinary regulations clearly stipulate penalties for coaches who attack match officials, organizing committee members, or league officials.
Previously, Thanh Hoa FC's coach Velizar Popov had also been reprimanded several times for similar behavior.
For his part, Mr. Van Sy Son said: " I know that my players tried very hard at home. We were at a disadvantage, and I'm not saying this only now. We didn't lose, but everyone in the stadium, watching on television, and understanding football, you must speak up for Quang Nam Club. With the referee's decisions, we couldn't play. I warned about this before the match when we were being unfairly treated ."
