First introduced about a year ago through a presentation by Honor CEO George Zhao, Honor has officially implemented its new silicon-carbon battery technology in its flagship foldable smartphone, the Magic V2. Launched in China last September, the Magic V2 is now officially available internationally. Thanks to this new battery technology, the Magic V2 is the thinnest foldable smartphone ever, and after nearly six months, no other product has been able to challenge this position. One of the reasons for this advantage is the new battery type, which is exceptionally compact and has a larger capacity.

So what are the characteristics of this new type of battery? First, the absence of lithium in its composition. Second, the theoretical capacity of the new battery per gram is about 10 times higher than traditional graphite batteries. Third, the new technology allows the phone to operate stably and reliably at low voltages (at voltages below 3.4V, the new battery provides three times more energy than traditional batteries. Compared to graphite systems, silicon-carbon provides 240% more energy).

It all stems from silicon-carbon battery technology.

The total actual capacity increase at this point is 12.8%. Although not more than 10 times as theoretically possible, in any case, this allows for a significant reduction in battery size while maintaining (and even increasing) capacity. This is why the Honor Magic V2 can be equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery like the Magic Vs but with a thinner design.

At first glance, the phone's casing seems thinner and the battery capacity slightly increased, but in reality, there hasn't been a breakthrough in battery technology for a long time. We can expect Honor not to stop there, and their competitors will also begin to join the new race for battery life.
